Who’s In And Who’s Out At Newcastle This Summer?

Since Newcastle seem to be floating towards the Premier League, here’s some views on who could come in and leave the club this summer.

Joe Ledley – summer target for Newcastle?

Chris will need to strengthen the squad for a return to the Premier League, and it seems he’s already started to scout some players on his own.

The squad right now is what we’d call solid, but at least four new players will need to be brought in during the summer and some will need to leave.

The defense has been a mainstay this season and the acquisitions of  Williamson and Simpson has strengthened the defense.

We think Fitz Hall should be sent  back to QPR, but we need a top class full-back.

Preferably a player who can play on either flank to challenge both Danny Simpson and Jose Enrique for a starting position.

We look OK in central defense with Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson and young Tamas Kadar fighting it out. Tamas turns 20 years-old today by the way.

The only full-back who comes to mind is somebody like Chelsea’s Paulo Ferreira, but whether he would consider coming to Newcastle is very debatable.

First of all let’s identify the players who should go.

Nicky Butt is over the hill and will not be offered a new contract at the club, and we think he’ll retire and may even be offered a coaching position on Tyneside, which would be good.

Fabrice Pancrate is just too inconsistent at this level and probably shouldn’t be offered a new contract.

Kazenga LuaLua, the brother of former Newcastle striker Lomana Trésor LuaLua could finally be let go. He is getting itchy feet and is unlikely to be able to push through to the first team next season.

So at this level Newcastle need to bring in a play-maker and winger. And as was the case with the new full-back, it would be good if the winger can play on either flank.

Joe Ledley is a player Newcastle have been interested in over the least season or two, and with Cardiff City more than likely to enter administration in the next month or so, it could be that Joe could be brought in on the cheap.

A side note:   Why was former Leeds Chairman Peter Ridsdale ever allowed to bring down another football club (Cardiff City) after he also previously ruined Leeds United by overspending?

Of course the 23 year-old Welsh midfielder Ledley is out injured through the end of the season, so we’d have to be sure his hip is fully healed.

As well as playing central midfield this lad can play on the left as a winger or a full-back and would seem a decent buy.

But the player who may already be targeted for midfield is Spurs’ Jamie O’Hara, who would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle, and he already has a lot of PL experience with both Spurs and Portsmouth.

It may be that Newcastle have already made their move for O’Hara, and we think Spurs would sell for around £3M.

So we need another out and out winger – any ideas?

We seem to have too many strikers, since Leon Best was signed from Coventry in January.

One of them could be sold in the summer, and the one that seems to be likely is local lad Shola Ameobi, and the club could probably get £2M for him.

That would leave Carroll, Lovenkrands, Best and young Nile Ranger, who has to be given a chance to come through.

But we think if Shola goes, Newcastle would bring in another striker and we wouldn’t be surprised if Newcastle go after free agent Jermaine Beckford from Leeds United in the summer.

He was a target in January but of course he will now be available for free this summer.

He would be a risk, but could be a decent buy, and he showed this year during the FA Cup ties that he can play and score against the very best – Spurs and Tottenham.

That would be our choice of a new striker – what’s yours?

And in addition to the four new players above, we expect Chris to bring in two top youngsters from the big clubs hopefully on a season long loan deal to further strengthen the squad.

Players mentioned already are the likes of  Tom Cleverley (Manchester United) and Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Finally we expect the club to continue their Youth Policy by bringing in three or four top teenagers to the Academy during the summer months.

Which first team players do you think the club should bring in during the summer?   Assuming we’ll get that promotion.

Comments welcome.

What about Boateng or Yebda from Pompey?
I`m not sure if they are wingers or Cm.
S.Hunt from Hull is a great player but wages are a big thing if we go up.

    Agreed with Toongloom
theres no way we are going to score goals in the prem with those strikers !! We need to look for a striker with PL experience, Jo sprung to mind from Man city but he’ll want high wages.. CH has some thinking to do by the summer !!

In agreement,I am still not convinced that Best is a good signing….people say give him time to settle but he hasn’t really settled anywhere in his career so I think we might be waiting until the cows come home.

If anyone thinks Mike Ashley will bank roll a decent premiership proven striker they are kidding themselves….You get what you are given.

I thought the idea was to bring in players under the age of 26, so that would literally rule out Beckford as he’ll be 27 or 28 by then 🙁

As for the youngesters from Arsenil & Manc Usa, we’ve got hopes of getting them in & bob plays glf on a saturday, so no chance then!

‘One size’ Hall did a great job in defence yesterday & stopped us losing & as Williamson & Tayls are going to be out for the next 4 weeks & Colo is out too, I think this will give him time to prove he can do a job as a makeshift replacement & if he carries on maybe an idea to keep him, as it will keep the team steady!

I think we should get rid of Shola, send Ranger out on a season loan to say the Smoggies or Cardiff, Carroll will probably be in prison, so that leaves us with Loverboy & Best, so we’ll need at least 2 strikers, I would look at the top scorers in the Fizzy playoff teams who don’t get promoted & make a bee line for them, Beckford as I said will be too old & want too much money just cause he scored against the Manc USa & the Spurts!!!

but there are some decent players available though. JAMES Beattie springs to mind, hes on his way out this summer cause he has fell out with stoke manager. He would be an excellent signing, very cheap and bags of experience and goals. Could always send shola the other way lol then add beckford, so we got 2 quickies and 2 big powerful cf. I wud send ranger on loan. players to go: fritz hall, butt, lua lua, shola and best!

we wont be signing big huge 10m signings no more but with the teams going down, there will be a few decent players available at the end of the season. Heres a list who i would deffo look at:

Bullard, S.Hunt, Geovanni, O’ hara and if west ham went down – diamanti, carlton cole, upson theres loads. Just got to make clever signings and not panic buys!

James Beattie your having a laugh he is a championship player. I watched this american striker for Hull he looks fast. Best is not up to it. Why not Gary Neville for a year as Simpson needs to learn more. Robbie Keane would be ok if we could afford it. Joe Ledley would be ok as well. Might finish mid table with a bit of luck.

I think we should spend our summer budget on one special player, someone who could really get the fans talking, the player I’m thinking of is of course Kieron Dyer. Should be available at a decent price and for the £80,000 a week we would pay him we could get as many as 7 or 8 games out of him, during the course of his 5 years contract.

    ok, but seriously. . .

I think o’hara would be a great signing but I fear there could be alot of interest in him this summer.

Other players I think could be realistic good buys include; Etherington from Stoke, Larrsson from Birmingham, Lee from Bolton, and Belhadj from Pompy.

Tappy lappy great shout mate. Keane is clearly out at spurs & would be fantastic for us. I think we shout buy someone with a a good engine & some fight in mid as I think smith don’t have the legs 4 the prem & not sure nolan does either. Here are the players we should bring in but prob won’t if ma is still in charge.

    Robbie keane
    Scott Brown
Matt taylor (cover at lb & could play lw)
Aiden McGeady (could play rw or lw bags of skill)
    Matt upson
    Alan hutton

Yes I know there is a big celtic vibe in there but celtic are skint & would sell these guys cheaper than they’d want to. Team next year
    (but no chance)

    hutton taylor upson enrique
    mcgeady brown barton/guth jonas/taylor
    Caroll/loven Keane

etherington would be class but doubt we could get him. O’hara would be nice but also doubtful. Mcgeady to expensive I dont think we will know what kind of money we will have untill the window but Matt taylor would be a solid buy for cover on the left wing and left back. I like this 26 yr old rule but we cant risk not staying up. All these rules need to be made once we are comfortable playing in the EPL year after year. I think are main target has to be a dominate striker as we dont have one and Mcloven is not a top EPL striker we must shell out some money.

How about N’zogbia for cover all up and down the left and Milner these are two young players who can play multiple positions.
I joke I joke. But i do have both of them on my fantasy team.

What about bentley or Delph on loan or Elm , maybe Santa Cruz, Pavlyuchenko, Sturridge, Smalling

For a start and a thinking off staying in teh EPL next year I woudl go after these oldies and then start with the young guns.

But Scharner (free)should be brought in as he provides strong leadership and depth in multiple positions in the defensive half and Matt Taylor also would solidify the left side with a right winger maybe Dunn (free) if his wages aint to high , Boyd wouldnt be bad

I reckon we should cash in on Shola Ameobi as he has not cut it in the Prem. Then we should get another youngster who could be a star in the future. Personally, I would go for Danijel Aleksi? of Genoa. He has great potential and could turn out to be a superb Prem striker. Also, probably would not cost a really hefty fee!

A lot of fans might want a big clear-out if we go up, but I’m not sure if I wouldn’t keep everyone except Butt and just add 5-6 players…3 defenders, 2 mf’s and a striker. Almost silly to name names, though maybe the two young Norwegian mf’s we’ve been linked with could be worth a pop?

Mass Changes needed for next season: Fitz Hall back to QPR, Nicky Butt and Pancrate released.
Kev Nolan 3.5mill (lost his Prem legs)
    Guthrie 3.5mill (money to spend)
Wayne Routledge 3.5mill (too risky for prem)
Leon Best 2mill (not good enough)
    Shola 2mill (legend but useless)
Xisco 2.5mill (waste of 5 or 6 mill)
    Ryan Taylor 1.5mill (crap)
    TOTAL- 18mill (16.5 if no-one wants Tayls)
    then release
    Beye/Steinsson – 2 – 3mill
Chris Smalling – LOAN (instead of Fitz)
    O’Hara – 4.5mill
    Muamba – 4mill
    Brunt – 3.5mill
    Doyle – 4mill
    Total – 18 -19mill
Overall spending of 1mill -maybe 2 or 3. About what was spent in January. In perfect circumstances these dealings could end up with MA paying nothing from his own pocket espeically with 20 mill lurking around of previous seasons.

    Team that I would like:

    Beye/Steinsson Tayls Collocini Enrique

    Brunt Muamba O’Hara Gutierrez

    Carrol Doyle

Bench: Krul, Williamson, Smith, Barton, Lovenkrands, Ranger and Kadar

Other Youngsters on Loan (maybe) plus further Academy and Youth development

The central midfield is very poor. We have found our level in the Championship. Smith and Nolan were slow and useless in the Prem. They are a year older and slower!!!! Barto0n is always injured and lacks pace. Guthrie is a Championship player. We will struggle unless we invest in proven Prem quality. I agree that this article is deluding. We assume we will be OK because we are doing well in a very poor league. This team with other Championship additions as per the article will be in a relegation fight which means we could come anywhere between 12th and bottom depending upon luck and injuries. Its going to be a slog because the fat man will not spend. lets hopeo God he sells. He is a disaster . CH has saved him from total contempt.

Hughton’s gonna have to spend what money he has wisely while picking up some decent loan signings along the way. Recruiting a striker who is gonna score goals is his toughest job, because if we don’t have a decent goalscorer we will be fighting relegation all season long. I also think we need a recognised DM as Smith will give away far too many freekicks in the prem and of course some much needed creativity in the middle. Hughton should take a look at some of the World cups weaker teams for inspiration and value for money. Players like:
    Samuel Inkoom RB
    Alex Lukovic LB
    Barnetta or Inler MF
    Rene Khrin MF.
Egypt also have 1 or 2 decent players like Zidan and Gedo who could be loaned for the season.

Nugent might not be a bad shout if £8m is too much 4 us 2 foek out on a keane or gudjohnson. Mind you I think that gud will be a spurs player & keane will be surplus. We should gey him he’d be best goalscorer we’d have since shearer. Different player but great goalscorer. My fear is that if MA is still in charge CH will be givin nowt 2 spend during the summer & we’ll come straight back down.

The main thing we are in need of is a goalscorer! One player I would love would be pavlyuchenko but persume he’d be to expensive! Might have to take a gamble on a young up and comer from Europe or south America such as Eden hazard from Lille or loan keirison from barca! Maybe look at spurs for squad players players such as jamie ohara should be available maybe even gio dos santos as back up for jonas and routledge because he would add a little bit of flair and looked half decent at barca We need a new right back can’t think of any off hand! Would love to get Gary cahill but think it’s abit unrealistic with big teams sniffing about him! Like I say tho pretty confident the defence would do ok in prem maybe a couple of back ups on loan! Midfeild is just missing a player with abit of creativity and abit of pace! and upfront I would keep carrol and ranger and get 2 pacey goalscorers if poss! I would sell lovenkrands best, xisco, smith! But rest of squad is quite small so shouldn’t sell many more

I think we have a good squad and plenty of good prem league players in our sqad. pearceet – I agree, don’t think there’s gonna be any ‘big’ signings, all will be kept below a certain amount.

    Charlietoon- completely agree.

nden85 – i agree, think Taraabt has incredible ball ability, although I would have doubts – where would he play? Work rate is poor … Also would he be able for the pace of the Premier League – less time on ball, more movement needed for him to find space….

Mylestoon – Gibson sounds good, not convinced he would be available. I would prefer O’Hara however.

Wigaz – dont think Nugent would be available…

Shot Bru – your mentioning quite a lot of foreign based players…. these players don’t just gel because they are individually gifted. Quite important in the premier that the team morale is high, and reduced language barriers. Look at Ferguson…looks to bring in English based players. This is very important. We dont want to be the next Pompey – random foreign players who cant play together!

Fozzie, GeordieTartanArmy – I dont think it is about what you rate the players as…As in I would nearly agree with who you think is good and average and bad, etc. However this isnt Football Manager or Fifa, we cant just replace the whole squad. It’s so important to bring players gradually into a team. And to just get rid of most players who got us promoted wouldnt be the slightest bit fair. Also, to suggest selling Lovenkrands is ridiculous, he has been fantastic for us, both in Championship and PM last yr…and he was free!

Possible Signings Could be any of the following

    Joe Hart, Robert Green

I think Harper is a good goalkeeper and all that, but premiership, when given was sold, the difference between the two was so big. Need a strong keeper

Right Back – Beye, Steinson, Fabio/Rafeal (Loan), Hutton (even though he’s on loan at the scum), Finnan, Faubeart, Inkoom

Left Back – Belhadj, Daniel Fox, Van Arnold, Matt Taylor, Shorey

Centre Back – Upson, Cahil, Yobo – All 3 could be available depending on relegation – Yobo currently not in the everton side. Scharner, Shawcross, Tompkins,

Centre Midfield – Flamini, Ohara, Annan, Gibson, Ledley, Inler, Noble, Van Bommell, Snejder, Witshire, Cleverley, Belrami, Collinson

    Right Wing/Left Wing

Larrson, Robben, Boeteng, Mcgeedy, Des Santos, Bentley, Etherington, Petrov, Wright Phillips

    Centre Forward

Piqueline, Carlton Cole, Bellamy, Beattie, Keane, Sturridge, Kalou, Benitez, Zidan

All would improve our team and would keep us in the premier league.
