Andy Carroll has today dedicated his equalizing goal on Saturday afternoon at Middlesbrough, to the traveling Newcastle fans.
Andy Carroll – 12th goal of the campaign
There were 3,600 Newcastle fans on hand at the Riverside Stadium Saturday, to support Newcastle’s promotion drive, and Andy’s goal gave the lads a hard earned point against a good looking Middlesbrough team.
Andy told Newcastle United TV this morning:
“They never shut up all game and that goal was for them,” “Every away game they are incredible and it would have been unfair on them if we hadn’t got something from the game.”
“It was a good ball in from Ryan but I didn’t think it was going to get to me.” “It bounced through a few players and I had to get it under control quickly and hit it sharp.”
“Luckily it’s gone in bottom corner and it was a great feeling to get my first derby goal.” “Any goal is nice, but to get one in a local derby being a Geordie lad meant a lot.”
“I had a chance a couple of minutes to get a winner but the defender made a good block.”
“We’re happy to get the draw, though, because the game didn’t really go the way we wanted after Peter (Lovenkrands) scored the first goal.”
“They pressed after that and we spent a lot of time in our own half.” “We conceded the two goals but showed good character to keep on going and I think we deserved the point.”
Carroll took his chance very well, and it would have been so easy to have fumbled the opportunity, which came with just 8 minutes remaining.
But the 21 year-old seems to have an eye for goal this season and now has 12 goals for the Magpies in his best season ever.
But he’s just one of the promising youngsters at the club, who are now starting to make their mark in the first team.
