Chris Hughton must be one of the most diplomatic men to be found in the world of football.
Chris Hughton – magnificent job for Newcastle this season
When he reviews teams Newcastle are going to play, he nearly always gives the opposition some big compliments.
Just look at the Middlesbrough game – both before and after the game Chris was was saying how the Teesside team could still come through for promotion this season, and how manager Gordon Strachan’s influence was just starting to be seen – and by the way, what a great manager Gordon was.
We’re sure lots of Middlesbrough fans were upbeat about their team after Chris’ comments before the game, and then of course the Teesside club gave one of their best displays of the season, just to prove Chris right.
And today Chris will not be drawn into getting revenge tomorrow night over Scunthorpe, who beat Newcastle 2-1 in October.
This is what Chris said today when he was asked if Newcastle wanted revenge against Scunthorpe tomorrow night:
“I don’t think we owe them one, no,” “On the day they scored one more goal than we did but we had more chances to win the game.”
“That game was evidence of any team being able to beat any other team in this division on their day.” “But that is in the past, our focus is very much on looking forward rather than backwards.”
“Even after that game the players refused to dwell on the defeat and look what happened – a 15-game unbeaten run.”
“That showed the mental strength of these lads and how determined they are to get out of this division.”
“A lot of people expected us to nose dive after that period, but we moved on and ended up establishing ourselves at the top of the table.”
“That is where we remain and where we intend to stay until the end of the season.”
Everything Chris says is true, and we have to admit we thought the lads were going to slide down the league table after that Scunthorpe defeat, when we had got just 2 points from 4 games.
But most Newcastle fans now are just delighted at how good Chris Hughton has been for the Newcastle club this season.
And with the help of some of our more mature and experienced players like Smith, Nolan and Harper, Chris has helped create a tremendous team spirit at the club, which is always great to see.
But as Alan Shearer (who also thinks Chris has been magnificent for the club this season) said recently – the Premier League will be a be a brand new challenge for Newcastle.
Alan is right of course, and there’ll be a lot more Newcastle fans convinced of Hughton’s ability, if the lads can finish in the top half of the Premiership next season – wouldn’t that be something?
And then we can all start talking daft – like getting back into Europe and all that stuff.
But after all, that’s what we all do when our club is successful, come to think of it. 😀
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #1Exited & frightened about getting promoted it depends what Fat Tw*t & Lamearse decide to do in the summer. We really need to buy at least 3-4 top players.

Comment #11Hey Wow Joey Barton misses a penalty for reserves. Already 2-0. Haris Vuckic needs to come back and help them out. He is awesome. Those Wigan and Portsmouth players would be awesome if we get’em.

Comment #13Anyways – stoke are surely safe this season!?
What about Bolton?? Lee would add dash and guile to our passing game around the box, or Muamba for a bit of steel in midfield?? both young lads n’all.
Or the scum?? I still worry that it’s our destiny to sign keiran richardson at some point. Bent or Jones on the other hand?? – way all is forgiven?

Comment #16TomNUFC – aye can’t put my finger on it – mixed race lad covered in bling called Keiran, who when not injured, sulks at being played out of position, then there’s the various driving offences – thought it was just me.
In fairness I would love to see a player like ol dyer – at his best – stretching the opposition and banging down the middle of the park again – we have never replaced his give and go movement in the middle.

Comment #22Aye he looks like a shoe-in for the england squad – if not team now this summer. Wasn’t a fan then but have to admit that he’s a smashing footballer now in a pretty crabby villa side. Speaking of which – touch wood – surely playing them at home next season – like I say touch wood – will be a mouthwatering highlight bearing in mind their general bile towards us last time we met,, including the banners and the villa player shielding the ball with 5 mins left – despite them having nowt to play for. Still rankles now a bit..
