Andy Carroll As Big A Handful As Alan Shearer Was

Fitz Hall had a solid enough game on Wednesday night against Scunthorpe although he didn’t have too much to do.

Fitz Hall – Carroll as hard to mark as Shearer

But Fitz can always point to the clean sheet, and that was only the second shutout in the last 9 games, so that was another good thing about that game, as well as the lads just being far too good for Scunthorpe.

Andy Carroll got a good brace on Wednesday night and he’s really looking the part these days for the Magpies.

Fitz marked Alan Shearer in the 2004-2005 season when he was at Crystal Palace, and he thinks big Andy is just as much a handful as Shearer was:

“I would say that Andy is just as big a threat because he is much taller and that is all you are going to look for.”

“Alan was probably more of a strong guy who would get his body there, but Andy will come over and overpower you.”

“It is frightening when he peels to that back post. You know you are in trouble because you know he is going to climb all over you.”  “You also know if he gets the ball on his head he will hit the target.”

“Andy is probably one of the best headers of a ball I have seen. He is good enough with the ball at his feet and he leads the line well.”

That should give Andy Carroll a big boost, and maybe he will go into the game tomorrow thinking  he is Alan Shearer.

But come to think about it, that’s what he probably does in every game. 😀

Fitz is looking forward to the final 10 games of the season, in which he will play a big part for Newcastle:

“We are counting them down and looking to tick each game off with a win.”

“We have done well in recent weeks and it is up to us to make the most of our last 10 matches.”

“Hopefully, we can pick up another win at Bristol City.”

If Newcastle can capture promotion and Fitz has an extended impressive run in the side, he will experience maybe one of his finest moments in football when Newcastle fans finally welcome the lads back to St. James’ Park, once  promotion is assured.

There’s nothing quite like the Newcastle fans in football, and it will be just reward for the QPR man.

Comments welcome.

I dont think its a coincidence that lovenkrands has ben banging them in when partnered with Carroll either.

Its like the crouch effect on England, teams worry about stopping the ball getting to the big man, lovenkrands can use his intelligence to make the runs he does. For example against Scunny, they dropped deep, tried to focus on Andy where Lovenkrands would drop off and pick up the ball in acres of space in front of the defence.

Shearer is 05/06…hmmm maybe as big of a handfull, Shearer in his prime, noone comes close to bullying defenders.

Also does anyone know why we have Fitz Hall on loan. He looks very decent and just wondering why QPR let him leave on loan?

Carroll reminds me more of Wyn Davies than Alan Shearer. Like Wyn the Leap he is outstanding in the air & is a real handfull for defenders.

Geordiedoonsouth – aye I would agree, I never saw the Mighty Wyn play but from what I’ve read he seems very similar.

    Shearer – v – Carroll???

Dreaming there is no comparison IF Carroll captains England and gets to 90% of Shearers goal tally in the PL then I will stand corrected but I do not see it….
