Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is forced to leave out Danish striker Peter Lovenkrands this afternoon at Bristol City, as he has not recovered from the knock he picked up on Wednesday night against Scunthorpe United.
But Hughton brings in another striker, Leon Best, to replace Lovenkrands, so we have to assume Chris will again play in an attacking 4-4-2 formation.
Best will partner the in-form Andy Carroll in attack.
We had thought Nicky Butt might be drafted into midfield, but it’s a good sign that manager Hughton wants the Newcastle side to attack Bristol City this afternoon.
We’re all for that, and certainly the Tyneside side is in top form right now and full of confidence.
The Newcastle side is otherwise unchanged from the side that tore Scunthorpe United apart last time out.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #44Two really lucky goals for Bristol but we are yet again so poor – what is it with us away from SJP?
Best is utter garbage – lets have Ranger on.

Comment #46I hope Houghton tells them to start keeping their shape. Currently on right wing we have wayne and guthrie. centre/defensive mid is gutt with Noland up front, left winger enrique. collo, fitz and danny at the back and carroll best up front.
No midfield. I hate to say it but Barton could have done a job today and as we dont seem to want to hold the ball. No patience.

Comment #47Unfortunately we only have Butt on the bench, and he doesn’t have the capability to affect the game in our favour by comin’ on. Nolan is a passenger in the middle of the park, which highlights the need to strengthen this area of the squad for next season.

Comment #48It’s been a good game, closing down well from both teams and good possesion by us, two unfortunate goals. Now lets see what they do…..

Comment #55Look I know we still have a game in hand but points are always better on the board, we need at least a draw from this one, just cannot see it with 35 to go…

Comment #56I say get the shots in, wet surface the keeper is bound to start dropping them or parrying, in which case Nolan is odds on to slot in on the rebound
