Newcastle Could Be After Two Top Midfielders

Newcastle are today reported in the local Evening Chronicle to be after Lille star Yohan Cabaye.

Yohan Cabaye – 24 year old Lille midfielder at Liverpool Thursday

The 24 year-old midfielder has a contract with Lille that runs through 2013, so Newcastle will need to pay some kind of fee for the 5’9″ player, who has played 131 times for Lille with 22 goals.

Yohan played 15 times with 3 goals for the France U21 side from 2006 – 2008.

The news is that Chris Hughton sent Newcastle’s new  chief scout Graham Carr to Anfield on Thursday night to watch Liverpool beat Lille 3-0, with two goals from the great Fernandez Torres.

But another player who could be drawing attention is Lille’s teenager Eden Hazard.

Eden Hazard – 19 year-old Belgium star

The 19 year-old Hazard plays with Cabauye in the Lille midfield, and has already played 11 times for Belgium.

Hazard is the player we reported Newcastle were interested in on 14th March, and it could well be Hazard that Newcastle are really interested in, although he would cost big money.

Hazard, who plays in both central midfield and out on the wing, stands 5’7″ tall and was born in La Louvière, Belgium, and has already played over 60 times for Lille and scored 8 goals.

This top youngster, at just 19 years old, has represented his country Belgium 11 times at the senior level.

A Newcastle insider told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood already have their own ideas on who they would like to bring in next season.”

“They have worked with Graham before during his days as scout at Tottenham.” “And his work is all part of a long-term project at Newcastle.”

So who are Newcastle really after? Is it Yohan Cabaye or Eden Hazard, or maybe even both, but it’s clear they are looking for a good, young play-maker in the summer, and that’s good.

Bit of sensationalist reporting there Ed.

As a Belgian, I know about Hazard very well and there’s no chance he’ll join Newcastle. (I would love to be proved wrong)

Again, Hazard is not coming to NUFC. As much as I love the Toon, its silly to think that 19 year old continental starlets being wooed by Arsenal and Real Madrid will shove all that aside to choose a move to Newcastle. Never mind the 20- 30 million euro price tag he could fetch.

Cabaye was tracked by Arsenal and Spurs before January’s window and wanted out, so we have a more realistic chance there.

I would hope to get Eden Hazard rather than Cabaye but, then the money is a issue for Hazard. Cabaye would still be a good signing for us at CM.

Is it just me or are we missing out on players from a continent that we havnt really scouted before!
im talking about south america. we have had some good quality players like solano, gutierrez, colo, asprilla…

the big clubs keep signing these guys for little to nothing and they come up big eg. kaka (milan 4m) ronaldinho (PSG 5m) etc etc etc ETC ETC

thats the first thing i would be doing if i were in charge
