Joey Barton Ready For Comeback – Lovenkrands Still Out

It could be time for Joey Barton to make his long awaited return to the Newcastle first team.

Joey Barton – in squad for Doncaster tomorrow night

It turns out that Joey will be in the squad tomorrow night for the game at Doncaster Rovers.

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Joey is back in the squad and he cannot get much closer to the first team than that.”

“He’s been out for a while and we haven’t tried to rush him. It’ll be good to see him back in action.”

We had thought that a good result tomorrow night would be dependent on Peter Lovenkrands returning to the starting line-up,  but unfortunately Hughton has confirmed that both Peter Lovenkrands and Alan Smith will not be involved tomorrow night.

That’s not good news.

Leon Best hasn’t looked like scoring when he’s started games for the Magpies, but he did have a great header well saved after 83 minutes on Saturday.

We’ll have to give Best more time on Tyneside, but tomorrow night is when Newcastle fans would love to see a goal from the former Coventry City striker.

Lovenkrands will be missed as he was at Bristol. It would be great to see Best get on the scoresheet but I am not convinced of his quality. Ed, I know you keep stressing the need to give him time but with nine games to go, he doesn’t have many games left to impress.

Best looks like a championship player, although his header was powerful it was straight at the goalkeeper, given that it was a free header he had planty time to give it some direction to either side of the goalkeeper.
Good to see Barton back in the squad regardless of his personal issues and personality he is actually premiership class and will be needed next season and for the run in

these last 9 games are the most important of the whole season,, we can not afford to carry anyone,,, and i feel like thats what we do when best is playing,,,
at least when the youngings are playing there busy out there,, best just dont seem to have it in him,,
he should come on when we are a couple of goals up, so there is no preasure on to score, he prob will if he has no peeasure on him

i like barton,, when he is at his best,, he could fit in most teams in the prem,, ( outside the top 4) just has to sort his head out,,,

Lovenkrands will surely be missed as is Williamson!

However, I think this game’ll be a tricky one and has all the signs of a draw when a win’d be a superb result.

We need all the points we can get if we’re gonna go up as champions as WBA’s run in is far easier than ours and, they can turn it on when they need.

Even winning the next four home’s gonna be tricky and for all the game with Forest looks like a cert, I aint sure.

It’s not all over ’til the fat lady signs is it.

Best will come good if he gets more minutes on the pitch, bear in mind he has often come on late with the game already won and with the form of carroll and lovenkrands he hasn’t had a chance to form a partnership with anyone

I agree with Catchy – Best is probably starting to feel the pressure a little bit. He probably needs just a bit more time yet. Scoring a goal early in your Newcastle career doesn’t always mean you’re going to go on from strength to strength though…. Remember Pancrate’s early goal and how some thought he would go on to do that on a regular basis.

Some things do take time! To highlight this, there is enough ex-toon players who have gone on to become quality at other clubs.
