Andy Carroll Starts At The Keepmoat Stadium

Andy Carroll is in the starting eleven tonight at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster for tonight’s important game.

But Chris Hughton still makes three changes to the side which drew at Bristol City 2-2 on Saturday, with the surprise inclusion of captain Nicky Butt and utility player Ryan Taylor, who both get starts.

As expected, Tamas Kadar is also handed a start in central defense alongside Fabricio Coloccini, and this is the Hungarian’s 8th start and 15th appearance for the Magpies.

Ryan Taylor comes in for Jose Enrique, with the Spaniard named among the substitutes – and we have to wonder if Jose’s hamstring is again worrying him.

Chris will want his strongest possible side out next Monday night against Nottingham Forest, which could be why the Spaniard is rested tonight.  Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini complete the back four.

There is no Leon Best in the side which suggests Hughton will play a 4-5-1 formation with Nolan playing just behind front man Andy Carroll.

The defense has been giving away too many goals recently, and this seems an attempt to batten down the hatches against an in-form side, and we’ll have to hope that players like Carroll, Nolan and Guthrie, not to mention Jonas Gutierrez, can get some goals tonight.

Mike Williamson, who has been training with a cast on his broken hand, is not included on the substitutes bench, and as expected young Ben Tozer is there in case we have any defensive injuries.

At the moment we have Mike, as well as Fitz Hall and Steven Taylor out injured, but hopefully Williamson will be available for Monday night’s titanic game against Nottingham Forest.

And finally Joey Barton indeed returns to the Newcastle  bench for the first time since September, and could well be given a run-out sometime in the second half.

Howay The Lads!!

Doncaster will pass us off the park so maybe having Butt in there to break a few things up and flood the midfield will help.

Im guessing enrique is injured or being nursed back slowly and not dropped.

And with Carroll, make up for the bad publicity and bang in a few goals!

I like the way Hughton is easing Enrique in gently from his injury and resting him tonight, but i’m worried that Simpson may have to play LB. Just goes to show that we are in dire need of a capable deputy for Enrique next season.

Carroll will be wound up summit rotten for this game, let’s hope he channels it to his feet or head and not his fists!

Enrique injured? shame as he was great last game.

    No Best…. lol

Anyway, still our’s to lose imo, 3-1 to us.

I was hoping CH would have had the balls to drop Carroll. He is a thug with previous. I hope we win but he has a stinker.

CH seems to be a very negative coach or to be kind a cautious one. I can’t see that team winning the game tonight. I hope we do sneak a 1-0 win but it looks the sort of formation that will invite pressure. I hope I’m wrong but I have an awful feeling we might get beat.

With regards to the whole Taylor/Carroll affair i dont get why everyone is making a big deal about it. Players fight amongst themselves all the time, most of the time it stops on the training ground. This is Newcastle though and there are still many people in the club all too ready to run to the press.

Back to the match and we’ll be lucky to get a point with that team still no ambition away from home by hughton.

Enrique has to start, if he’s still carrying an slight injury you can take him in the 2nd half otherwise whats the point of him being on the bench. Always start with your strongest possible team.

Nicky Butt will get the run around today lacks match practice and more importantly talent.

Nolan is too slow to play off carroll.

Jonas & Routledge will be our biggest threats once more. Hopefully they’ll stick some decent crosses in for carroll.

R.Taylor – doesnt matter what position he plays he never plays brilliantly.

    Prediction = Scrappy 1-1 draw

Hope Butt has a good game, not sure how many of them he has left in him…good games that is.

4-5-1 is negative and Carroll needs someone up front with him as Nolan ‘forget’s’ to get there sometimes.

Shame Ranger isn’t on from the start.

I reckon if we are (as normal) not doing to well in the first half, Barton on for Butt and Ranger on for Nolan.

    2-0 Newcastle…Carroll and Jonas.

This seems to invite Donny to get at us straight away. I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet. Butt is about as useful as a man sent off in the first minute, maybe not even that. Whatever experience he has is more than outweighed by increasing lack of pace, vision and stamina.

Should have been 4-4-2 with Nile alongside Carroll, and Nolan in the middle of the park in Smith’s anchor role imho. Prepared to eat my hat, though…

    @MacToon

He’s been missing since January with a Knee injury and we’re still top of table. In that time we’ve lost once in League to Derby and once in Cup to west brom.

Sure its a blow (pardon the pun) but its not the end of the world. People are 100% sure carroll is the bad guy in the whole affair. For all everyone knows Taylor could of goaded Carroll into hitting him.

Last thing we need to do is fall apart at this stage of the season. So the Media “Sensationalizing” the Incident and the fans in full fury are’nt helping the club.

Lets not forget Barton who has done so little for the club because of his behaviour is being welcomed back into the team by some fans who seem to adore him. He needs to prove himself.

I hate away games, we’ll struggle like usual.

At home we are clearly unbeatable but so much more vulnerable away. Doesn’t help when Butt gets put in the team either.
