Joey Barton has finally returned to the Newcastle squad, for the game at the Keepmoat Stadium tonight in Doncaster.
Joey Barton – back in Newcastle first team squad
The 27-year-old midfield player who is ore than anxious to return to the Newcastle first team has not played since September, when he broke a bone in a foot – and that was his third serious foot injury since he’s been on Tyneside.
Newcastle manager Chris Hughton talked about Joey yesterday:.
“What we have always said with Joey is that, when he was fit and available, then we would like him involved,”
“Now, whether that sees him get parts of games or games from now until the end of the season, we don’t know.”
“But certainly we would rather have him available than not available.”
It seems that Chris will bring Joey back into the team slowly, and maybe he’ll get some run-out tonight at Doncaster.
Joey is still short of match practice and it will take a little time before he’s fully fit.
But as Chris says, it’s good that he’s now available because of his huge experience, and he could be very useful during the final 9 crucial league games of the season.
Joey will be fighting it out with Alan Smith, Nicky Butt, Danny Guthrie and Kevin Nolan for one of those central midfield spots, but of course he can also play out on the right wing.
We don’t literally mean fighting it out of course – we want to make that clear given the reported incident on Sunday between Steven Taylor and Andy Carroll.
We hope Joey gets a short run-out tonight at Doncaster, and we have to go all out for the 3 points.
