Mike Williamson In Newcastle Squad For Tonight’s Game

Some surprise good news today that Mike Williamson has been back in training with a splint on his injured hand, and is even likely to be included in the squad for tonight’s game against Doncaster Rovers.

Mike Williamson – in tonight’s squad

So that means  both Joey Barton and Mike Williamson appear to be in the squad for tonight’s game, and we expect Joey to be a substitute, but would be a little surprised if Mike makes the subs bench.

But Newcastle will need somebody on the bench,  like Ben Tozer,  in case one of our defenders is injured tonight.

Mike Williamson has been a success on Tyneside, since he was signed from Portsmouth for about £1M in January, and has already put in some excellent performances in the black and white shirt.

The time for Football League clubs to bring in new loan signings expires this Thursday, so Chris Hughton will be reviewing just who is available in central defense.

It looks now like Steven Taylor is out for the season, and there has been no word yet on how long Fitz Hall will be out with the hamstring injury he picked up on Saturday afternoon.

This is what Chris Hughton said last night:

“It is a real bonus to get Mike back, although we will not know until the morning if he is okay to play.”

“We are still assessing and I know we only have until Thursday to make judgements on whether we need more cover.”

“At this moment that would seem unlikely but we need to make sure we cover all bases.”

The real surprise would be if Mike starts ahead of young Tamas Kadar in tonight’s game, although we thought Chris had already said Tamas would play tonight.

However, Chris has always gone for experience, as youngsters however good they are, will tend to make the odd mistake, as they continue to learn their trade.

The team announcement about 45 minutes before tonight’s game, now promises to be very interesting.

Comments welcome.

Two steps forward and tow back!

Good news about Williamson and Barton but unfortunately countered by the seeming stupidity on the training ground!

Take the point about youn, inexperienced defenders Ed and Williamson’s got to be a safer bet in this crucial mustn’t lose game.

However, the only way to gain experience in the real world is to gain it in the real world of first-team football.

Tamas Kadar to start with Williamson there as back-up if need be.

Barton? Why not play him after half-time?

apparently Carrol is in the squad, but that was announced before this was made public…I think. Great news to have Williamson back, but I doubt very much he’ll start tonight. To be honest I’d rather see Kadar get 90 minutes anyway, the kids looks sheer class. Prem star in the making I reckon.

Carroll named – but doubtful due to his mystery hand injury. Maybe Williamson had a pop at someone tonight too.

Whilst I despair at AC – if reports are to be believed – nothing must be allowed to derail our push for promotions and recriminations should wait until the summer… feel sorry for CH,,, still Shola’s back on saturday, until he gets an other injury!

More words of wisdom from the inbred folk in an insignificant sattelite town somewhere south of the Tyne.

Anyone read the words of CH in The Chronicle today?

Hughton: “The Best of Leon is yet to come”

“He’s been brought to this club because he’s a good player.”

“Leon is a good player and I am sure the goals will come.”

This sounds like when Graeme Souness tried to convince the nation that Amady Faye was a “very good footballer”.

Well, with Andy Carroll hopefully suspended because of his stupidity, Leon could be the one who gets the goals tonight!

Oh and sorry for mention GS by name, an era most of us wants to forget..

Having initially remained on Tyneside following the events of Sunday, we understand that Andy Carroll has now linked up with the rest of the Newcastle squad and is available to play at Doncaster Rovers tonight.

Ranger cannot do the same job – totally unproven yet.

However, if the stories are true, Ranger MUST get the nod to start while Carroll is left to think about things.
