Monday night’s game is one of the biggest of the season at St. James’ Park, and a Newcastle win would be huge to catapult Newcastle forward to almost certain promotion.
Mike Williamson – taking one game at a time
But Williamson seems to have the same feelings as other Newcastle players and has said the players are just taking one game at a time, and not getting ahead of themselves.
When Mike arrived in January he said he wanted to clock in as many first team appearances as possible before the end of the season, and so far he has 8 appearances to his name, and there are still 8 games to play .
Mike talked about the game on Monday night:
“It would be a great game to play in as well because Nottingham Forest are still in the chase and it is massive for us.”
“It is just three points and that’s how we have to look at it, but to them it’s a bit more. Hopefully we can take them.”
“We have to just treat it one match at a time. Once we are mathematically promoted there will be a sense of relief, but then we will have to look at winning the league.”
“There is no talk about Monday being the moment we can stop pushing on if we win, that the job will be done.”
“If we were to win, it would be a big push for us, a massive result, but we have to concentrate on one game at a time.”
Anything but a win on Monday night would be a bit of a disappointment, but if the lads can win that game there could be some celebrations by the Newcastle fans, even though promotion will not be mathematically certain.
The next game is against bottom placed Peterborough on the following Saturday, and there must be no slip-ups there, and we will need 3 points at the bottom placed club – no doubt about that – no slip-ups.
