Chris Hughton has done a great job of keeping the Newcastle players’ feet firmly on the ground this season.
Chris Hughton – treating tonight as any other game
And Chris is not going to let the lads get carried away with only eight games to play in the Championship, with promotion almost within our grasp.
Tonight’s game is a huge one for the Newcastle club, and a win against Nottingham Forest will almost guarantee promotion, but Chris is looking at it as just the next game.
Chris said today:
“We’re very much looking at it as the next game, albeit a very big one, but we can’t afford to look further than that,”
“We’ve been able to manage expectations throughout the season and have managed to adopt an approach which has seen us take each game, or small part of the season, as it comes.”
“At this stage of the season, though, there’s no doubt that this is a huge game.”
“But there are seven games after this and nothing will be determined by this one game.”
“We’re not allowing ourselves to think that we could be promoted by such and such a date, we’re only focused on the Forest game and hopefully getting the result we want.”
“They will still be hoping to go up automatically and we’re dealing with a very good side.”
“That is why we’ve got to be fully prepared to play to our maximum in front of our own fans to get the three points we all want.”
It’s a huge game for Forest too, because if they have any chance of getting an automatic promotion spot, they will just have to win tonight.
It should be a great game in front of over 50,000 Newcastle fans tonight at St. James’ Park, and of course a win is what we’re all hoping for, that’s for sure.
Howay The Lads!!
