Hughton Defends Decision To Pick Andy Carroll

Chris Hughton is getting some heat right now to drop Andy Carroll from the Newcastle side.

Andy Carroll – will start tonight

That’s based on the incident between Steven Taylor and Andy Carroll of 8 days ago, but Chris will certainly not leave Andy out of the side for tonight’s crucial game against Nottingham Forest, he’s not that daft.

Chris talked about team selection today:

“My job is to manage this football club and this group of lads. Around that will always come decisions. I always pick the best team to win.”

“I don’t have to go into specifics, but I pick what I feel is the best team to win a match.

“Around that, there are issues of fitness, form, individuals, players coming back. Those are the things that I take into account.”

“We’ve got a crowd here with high expectations. They expect promotion.”

And Chris Hughton has insisted that both Carroll and Taylor will stay at the Newcastle club next season, and we think that will be the case.

All the news yesterday was about there being some kind of smear campaign against Steven Taylor, and on reflection was probably something made up in the press.

The press is probably still annoyed the Newcastle club seemed to have kept the lid on the Carroll Taylor episode, and it doesn’t seem to have affected the club much at all – at least not on the field of play, which right now is so important to Newcastle.

And yesterday was a Sunday after all, and not much else was happening at Newcastle, other than the huge game tonight against 3rd placed Nottingham Forest.

The best thing for the club is for the senior players to help get Steven and Andy get together, and ensure any malice existing between them is handled responsibly.

Both lads will be needed next season in the Premier League, but Newcastle will probably also need to get Carroll some extra help for his anger tantrums, based on his recent history.

One Joey Barton at Newcastle is enough to handle.

I don’t see anything in the article that says Houghton is under any pressure to drop Caroll?

He is our most prolific scorer at the moment so where is the heat and pressure to drop him coming from?

comments on here always crack me up.

a few unsubstantiated rumours about dressing room cliques and all of a sudden, kevin nolan gets criticism!

funny how a few weeks ago you were all harping on about dressing room harmony, then one crappy article in the press later, you’ve changed your tunes.

when’s the next bandwagon coming along?

lol well in guys that was a nice response!
Anyone else reckon Barton could give Carrol a bit of mentoring? Let him know that it’s not worth being a hot-head and that’ll get him no where, when he could just concentrate on his football and hit the bigtime. Barton’s recent interviews APPEAR (take this lightly) to indicate a developing maturity… so is this a possibility?

I think Carroll is his own man and will probably learn the hard way will a spell in the nick.
Be great if Joey can get back to playing well, keeping his nose clean and staying fit.

wtf would you want Barton to mentor him? if anyone, it’d have to be smudger.

Barton still hasn’t learned his lessons yet, so how’s he going to help carroll?

i doubt carroll will get sent down on this charge from the blu bambu, more likely a suspended sentence and a fine/community service.

let’s face it, if the guy was drinking in there he’s probably as much of a knobhead as AC is! 😉
