Chris Hughton is getting some heat right now to drop Andy Carroll from the Newcastle side.
Andy Carroll – will start tonight
That’s based on the incident between Steven Taylor and Andy Carroll of 8 days ago, but Chris will certainly not leave Andy out of the side for tonight’s crucial game against Nottingham Forest, he’s not that daft.
Chris talked about team selection today:
“My job is to manage this football club and this group of lads. Around that will always come decisions. I always pick the best team to win.”
“I don’t have to go into specifics, but I pick what I feel is the best team to win a match.
“Around that, there are issues of fitness, form, individuals, players coming back. Those are the things that I take into account.”
“We’ve got a crowd here with high expectations. They expect promotion.”
And Chris Hughton has insisted that both Carroll and Taylor will stay at the Newcastle club next season, and we think that will be the case.
All the news yesterday was about there being some kind of smear campaign against Steven Taylor, and on reflection was probably something made up in the press.
The press is probably still annoyed the Newcastle club seemed to have kept the lid on the Carroll Taylor episode, and it doesn’t seem to have affected the club much at all – at least not on the field of play, which right now is so important to Newcastle.
And yesterday was a Sunday after all, and not much else was happening at Newcastle, other than the huge game tonight against 3rd placed Nottingham Forest.
The best thing for the club is for the senior players to help get Steven and Andy get together, and ensure any malice existing between them is handled responsibly.
Both lads will be needed next season in the Premier League, but Newcastle will probably also need to get Carroll some extra help for his anger tantrums, based on his recent history.
One Joey Barton at Newcastle is enough to handle.
