Why Newcastle Are Now Certain To Be Promoted

Newcastle United are on 83 points, a full 13 points ahead of 3rd placed Nottingham Forest, and automatic promotion will soon be a certainty at Newcastle.

Chris Hughton – Newcastle promotion so close now – but don’t tell this man

Nottingham Forest have 6 games left so the maximum number of points they can now get is 88.

So here are two independent things that will now get Newcastle promoted this season:

  • Newcastle get 5 points from their last 7 games
  • Nottingham Forest drop 5 points in their last 6 games

What will happen in reality is that there will be some kind of mix between Newcastle gaining points and Forest dropping points in the games ahead.

And one way Newcastle can get promotion is if they beat Peterborough on Saturday, and Forest lose on the road at Bristol City. That will guarantee Newcastle promotion, so it could come as early as Saturday.

Newcastle have averaged over 2 points a game this season so it looks like the lads could end up with something like 97 points at a guess, but they need only 88 points because that’s all Forest can get and Newcastle have an overwhelmingly superior goal difference of  46 vs 21.  There’s no way in reality Forest can end the season with a better goal difference then Newcastle.

But of course we play Peterborough United on the road on Saturday, and that’s the first against the last placed side in the Championship, but Newcastle will take nothing for granted, and will again go all out for all 3 points.

But it’s not over yet, and we’re sure we’ll hear that from manager Chris Hughton tonight or tomorrow morning, because the aim now has to be to get 21 points from the remaining 7 games.

Because after all, we need to go up as Champions, and that’s one big reason why we think Newcastle are now promoted, and that it’s really only a matter of time before it becomes mathematically certain – and the sooner the better.

Comments welcome.

Could it not be as soon as the next matches, if Forrest lose and we win?

Anyway we’re still not over the finishing line and I’d love this team to do it in style as I believe they deserve all the credit for turning things around this season and ofc Hughton who seems to have grown stronger through this season.

    @ Turkish Magpie

If we beat the Posh and Forest draw, then you could say we are promoted. We have a +25 goal diff from Forest. Not a chance they will get 25 goals in 5 games and we conceed a stack full.

    Howay the lads!!

The Posh game will be canny close though, I reckon 2-1 to newcastle. They dont conceed many more than they score at home 29 scored to 31 conceed. Just checked the table.

With 7 away defeats on the trot, Forest will face a battle to ensure it is not 8 out of 8 with an away game at Bristol City next.

I think we will get that ‘P’ next to us in the league table pretty soon.

Fantastic performance. Other than a couple of chances for Forest I thought we bossed it and could have won by more.

regardless of forest’s result at bristol, beating peterborough and sheff utd will guarantee promotion.

so that’s the first goal, 2nd has to be push on and make sure we finish the league as champions.

I don’t think Forest see us as their promotion competitor now. It’s two races between Westbrom and Forest for 2nd place and I think WBA have excellent chance to make automatically promotion after we won against Forest yesterday.

For play-off I think Swansea and Forest will be the dead or alive final match and it’s interesting to watch.

Lad’s i am one content american magpie right now. Just watched the match on espn360 and amped up for next season. I know just getting promoted on are first time of asking is big for the club, but we are NEWCASTLE UNITED!!!We have no business being in the championship so the only way to do this club’s history and tradition justice is to claim champ status. After that we can start planning on smashing scumderland!!!!!
    From a Yank in America,
    Howay the Lads~!!!

so many of our fans think we will stuff sunderland next season if we get promoted, i think we will struggle badly in the prem with the players we have now, and we wont spend alot of money, we will need some really good signings if we are to have a good chance of staying up. Assuming the teams that are in the bottom 3 in prem at the minute go down, who do you think we are better than other than them 3?? I would say we would be on par with blackburn, very similar style and players.

I think hughton deserves his chance in the top flight, and any fans that think he should be replaced are idiots, give him the chance, and if after 10 games or so if he isnt delivering then fair enough.

And also the newcastle target from forest had a really good game last night “perch”, looked a player who could be a really good squad player for us next term, can play left back, right back, and in midfield.
