Chris Hughton makes three changes from the side that beat Doncaster 1-0 last Tuesday night.
Chris brings back Peter Lovenkrands, Jose Enrique and Mike Williamson to the starting line-up for tonight’s first verses third Coca Cola Championship clash, and the team is as we had expected.
That means young Tamas Kadar misses out tonight, as Hughton has gone for more experience at the back with Mike Williamson, who is not fit again to play after being out just over 2 weeks with a broken hand.
Williamson will play in a protective cast on his hand to protect it from further injury and returns to the center of the defense to partner Coloccini and replaces 20 year-old Tamas Kadar.
Enrique is back after having a rest in last week’s 1-0 win at Doncaster, and is restored to left-back, with Ryan Taylor making way.
And Lovenkrands, back from a two-week calf absence, replaces Nicky Butt as United are restored to an attacking 4-4-2 formation – and peter will play up front alongside Andy Carroll.
This is Newcastle’s most attacking side, with Guthrie preferred in central midfield over Alan Smith and Nicky Butt, who are both on the bench.
The subs are Tim Krul, Tamas Kadar, Joey Barton, Leon Best, Alan Smith, Ryan Taylor and Shola Ameobi and that’s the strongest bench we’ve had all season, and they may be needed tonight. Frenchman Fabrice Pancrate couldn’t make the bench tonight, with everybody now available.
A win will mean almost certain promotion for the Magpies – so we know the lads will go for it tonight.
The very experienced Alan Wiley is the referee for this game, which will be played in front of a full house and an electric atmosphere at St. James’ Park.
