Jose Enrique, still basking in the glow of his great goal on Monday night, has talked today about getting new players into Newcastle.
Jose Enrique – we already have a good squad
Jose talked this morning to the Newcastle Journal:
“It is not my work to say how many but I hope we will sign some new players because it is good to have a big squad.”
“But if we do not sign anyone, I don’t care because our team is full of good players.”
It’s true that Newcastle’s squad is full of players who have had lots of Premier League experience, and that must be a help to the squad next season in the Premiership.
However, as we have already noted, Chris Hughton will have some decisions to make on some players in the summer, such as what to do with Frenchman Fabrice Pancrate, whose contract ends in the summer.
But we don’t think Newcastle will offer Fabrice a new contract, which is why the club will bring in a top class winger to fight out out with our two current wingers, Gutierrez and Routledge.
Pancrate has never played in the PL, and neither has center-back Mike Williamson, but we have to think that Mike is very well equipped to
be successful in England’s top division. Certainly the way he’s played for Newcastle so far has been just excellent, abd he looks a tremendous buy at just £1M.
We’d like to see Chris do what Jose Mourinho did when he first arrived at Chelsea, and have two top players for every single position, so the fact for instance that we currently have two good wingers, shouldn’t say we don’t go out and get another one.
You have to have competition in the squad, and through the season there is loss of form and injuries to contend with.
We have been linked closely with Juan Albin, the Uruguayan striker, and we have a feeling that Chris already knows the exact players he needs to get in the summer, anit appears he’s workled closely with chief scout Graham carr and assisyant manager Colin Calderwood.
And we have to believe that Mike Ashley is hand in glove with Chis on the summer transfer front, and it’;s not going to take £60M to get the squad good enough for the Premiership.
Not that it seems certain Newcastle will be promoted it’s going to be interesting tos ee what players are brought in, and who leaves the club.
We had an article yesterday about our 5 strikers and whether we could keep all of them, and now with the seemingly definite interest in Albin, who can operate as out and out striker or a second striker, you have to believe one of the strikers will move out.
One position we’ll just have to strengthen is central midfield, and we’d love to see a play-maker with skill brought into the squad during the summer.
Right now we have to say we feel fairly good about the squad but strengthening must and will happen this summer.
Comments always welcome.
