Newcastle Need Two Top Players For Each Position

Jose Enrique, still basking in the glow of his great goal on Monday night, has talked today about getting new players into Newcastle.

Jose Enrique – we already have a good squad

Jose talked this morning to the Newcastle Journal:

“It is not my work to say how many but I hope we will sign some new players because it is good to have a big squad.”

“But if we do not sign anyone, I don’t care because our team is full of good players.”

It’s true that Newcastle’s squad is full of players who have had lots of Premier League experience, and that must be a help to the squad next season in the Premiership.

However, as we have already noted, Chris Hughton will have some decisions to make on some players in the summer, such as what to do with Frenchman Fabrice Pancrate, whose contract ends in the summer.

But we don’t think Newcastle will offer Fabrice a new contract, which is why the club will bring in a top class winger to fight out out with our two current wingers, Gutierrez and Routledge.

Pancrate has never played in the PL, and neither has center-back Mike Williamson, but we have to think that Mike is very well equipped to
be successful in England’s top division. Certainly the way he’s played for Newcastle so far has been just excellent, abd he looks a tremendous buy at just £1M.

We’d like to see Chris do what Jose Mourinho did when he first arrived at Chelsea, and have two top players for every single position, so the fact for instance that we currently have two good wingers, shouldn’t say we don’t go out and get another one.

You have to have competition in the squad, and through the season there is loss of form and injuries to contend with.

We have been linked closely with Juan Albin, the Uruguayan striker, and we have a feeling that Chris already knows the exact players he needs to get in the summer, anit appears he’s workled closely with chief scout Graham carr and assisyant manager Colin Calderwood.

And we have to believe that Mike Ashley is hand in glove with Chis on the summer transfer front, and it’;s not going to take £60M to get the squad good enough for the Premiership.

Not that it seems certain Newcastle will be promoted it’s going to be interesting tos ee what players are brought in, and who leaves the club.

We had an article yesterday about our 5 strikers and whether we could keep all of them, and now with the seemingly definite interest in Albin, who can operate as out and out striker or a second striker, you have to believe one of the strikers will move out.

One position we’ll just have to strengthen is central midfield, and we’d love to see a play-maker with skill brought into the squad during the summer.

Right now we have to say we feel fairly good about the squad but strengthening must and will happen this summer.

Comments always welcome.

if we release Pancrate and Butt and sell Xisco and Best and loan out Ranger we have room for a couple of good players. We need cover at left back and right back. We need a another winger down the left. Ryan Taylor is not great but we could do worse than keep him for cover on the right. A speedy striker to do what Best was supposed to. I’d also like to see a new playmaker in there.

    Simps/? Tayl/Will Coll/Kdar Bull/Van ( I wish)
    Wyne/rtayl Smith/Bart Guth/Nolan Gutt/?
    Ameobi/Carroll Loven/?

We also need a top utility player (like Steve Watson used to be) who can fit in just about anywhere if needed. In fact it seems CH seems keen on players who have got more than one string to their bow (including kicking with both feet) which has to be good.

Unlike previous chequebook happy gaffers, I think he will bring in the right faces and I hope most of them will not be ones we predicted. I agree, thumbs up on Willo!

    And release Fitz too.

What players are in the prem that we could get due to them getting relegated?

I’d like to see us sign players along the lines of:

Onuoha as a quick CB and very able RB option which gives extra competition for Simpson and cover centrally then allowing Kadar to cover LB.

Ledley or O’Hara could become our Gareth Barry type player in central midfield but give another (and crucially left footed) option on the wing. They could also cover Enrique when we need an attacking LB and Jose is out.

Driver or Commons would be another quick and direct winger capable of playing either wing but again crucially they prefer their left foot.

Derbyshire as a striker would be our Doyle. Not the best technically, nor creative, but well-built, quick and a tireless worker who could play with any of Lovenkrands, Ameobi or Carroll.

Add in a couple of youngsters, perhaps one being a defensive midfield prospect and a couple of low fee – low risk bargains like Albin and we’d have a very complete looking team.

One downside is that there would be little chance of our younger players forcing their way in, but they not likely to be played with Hughton likely to continue with experience to re-establish ourselves in the Premiership. Therefore they could be loaned out and get immensely valuable experience in next season’s npower leagues.

    We have two class wingers?
One can’t cross, the other is unproven in Premier league, also there are two “wings” on a football pitch.

As for buying players from relegated clubs … why were they relegated?

I’m afraid Ashley needs to spend big for us to survive in the Premiership.

Anyone that thinks the strategy from this season will work in the Prem is mistaken.
Cheap signings and players on loan … sorry

    Smith & Butt too slow.
Shola never looked likely in the Prem
Colo looked terrible – Shearer didn’t rate him.
I look at our squad and only see five or six players that are Prem quality.

Time to get the cheque book out!
Or are you all hoping Llambias has enough Tesco Club points saved up?

I’d like another winger on each side, a creative midfielder, a pacey little striker and perhaps proper cover for left and right back.
I agree that we should release Pancrate and Butt and sell Xisco and Best and yes, Ranger needs to be getting first team action week in/week out, so get him loaned to Cardiff or Forest if they don’t come up.

I can see Butt taking a coaching job either here or at Man U.

sure..we need top players for each position… but subs should be youngsters..

i just hope we wont end up with 10 defenders, 10 midfileders and 7 strikers..all average.

    GK: haper/krull
    RB: s.taylor/simpson
    LB: enrique/van aanholt (? 🙂 )
CB: colo, wili & kadar should be enough, especially cos taylor can also play there
    LM: jonas / vuckic
RM: routlidge / 1 top youngster
DM: guthrie / 1 established midfielder (obi ?)
CM: nolan / 1 talented AMC (albin, or…??)
    ST: loven / ranger
ST: carroll (i guess) / i’d go for some experienced striker – some 30 year old who’d be good for 2-3 season, who’ll pass on experiences & in that time i’m sure we’ll find another top young striker..

sell the rest! i’d hate to see we end up with 30 first team players & CH ending up rotating all of them if results dont go our way.. we should have first team squad of 21-23 players – sign players we all know they have quality & give them time – it doesnt matter if it takes them 3 season to start fighting for europe – they (we) will get there when they’ll be ready.

just dont buy another average players..who’re not certain they have the quality & start experimenting, cos we all know what will happen – noone will know if they can do their job – you cant give an average player chance of 30 matches to show if he can do the job (it’s too big of a risk & we all know he’ll be substituted), so you buy backups in the next TW – we end up with 30 average players – that will disrupt the harmony & we’ll end up in CCC again.

    sorry for my english – it’s my BD & i’m a bit…well u know 😀

    Green, Harper, Krul

    Right Back

James Perch, Danny Simpson, John O’Shea

    Left Back

Jose Enrique, Van Arnold, John Arn Risse, Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Maynor Figueroa

    Centre Back

Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Johnny Evans (Loan) , Matthew Upson, Thomas Kadar, Needam Onouho, Phil Jagelka

    Centre Mid

Joey Barton, Tomas Rosicky, Joe Cole, Darren Gibson, Yossi Benyoun, Scott Parker (ball winner), Jamie Ohara, Tom Huddlestone, Jack Rodwell

Wayne Routledge, Jonas Guittierrez, Martin Petrov, Shaun Wright Phillips, David Bentley??, Matthew Etherington, Steven Pienarr

Carlton Cole, Andy Carroll, Bobby Zamora, Saloman Kalou, Hugo Rodallega, Yakubu

That would easily keep us in the prem, midtable, then the season after, we could then push on.

I like the idea of Commons and Ledley. I also like Perch in mid or at the back. Creativity in the centre I think is the key but I’m not sure who and from where. O’Hara would be great but he probably won’t come and someone like Bullard is past it. I just want to see someone who is level headed and can make a defense spliting pass running around St James because it has been awhile!

Call me crazy but I’d like to see Collo tried as a defensive MF, I think he has played there before for prevous clubs and he’s quite deft on the ball, not a bad passer, but maybe not a top class premiership CB, Taylor and Williamson could then form a solid CB pairing with Collo as cover, that would solve our DM position. Then we just need a playmaker and a striker who can cover on the wing – that midfield sorted.

Dunno if it would work till tried but I always said Milner was a CM and look at him now.

@geoff777: Colo was adapting to the English game. Regardless of what you might think about the drop in ability in the CCC the fact is he’s been a good player for us this season and isn’t standing off as much as he was last season. Once he realised that people weren’t going to fall down at a slight breeze (as often happens in La Liga) he began adapting his play to become more physical. What you’re seeing now is the results of exactly that.

I have it on good authority that Krul will be sold this summer and Forster will return to fight Harper for the jersey.

Simpson needs replacing as he has proven in stints at Man Utd and Blackburn (our level next year) he can’t cut it. Maybe Walker or Naughton on loan for a year from Spuds.

CB’s Colo and Willo will be fine as will Taylor if he stays. Tamas will be ok too, so maybe a loaning of Bruma from Chelsea or Upson should the hammers go down.

LB – Van Aaaholt would be a great acquisition on loan for a year, or even Gibbs from the Arse.

We need 2 wingers, maybe three. I think we should look to sell Jonas who will hopefully have a good world cup – ideally bring in £6 and invest it in Dorrens, Olsson at B’burn and maybe Navas from Sevilla, or Hernandez from Valencia. Albin would be great. Quick, agile, both feet and can score from anywhere. a free transfer too.

Up front we need 2 players – a quickie and a bruiser should Carroll not work out/leave/get sent to Jail. Maybe a pop at Cole should the Hammers drop, or a cheeky bid for someone like Macheda.

We need to be realistic. Youth needs blooding too, and we need to loan out the likes of Connor Newton, Ferguson, Donaldson, Ranger etc. So they don’t sit on the bench and become a Graham Fenton-esque situation.

    Hall (loan return)

Some of yall are pretty harsh on a group of lads who have all but ended the nightmare on tyneside. Face it boys, if the season we got relegated was the only look you got to see of some of these guys in the premier league i would say thats not a fair run out. we had so many moving pieces, different tactics for the 5 managers we had (lol), and quite frankly key pieces on the pitch had all but given up the ghost halfway through the season( no pun intended) making the remaining lads out there trying look that much worse. One of yall questioned the class of our wingers, craziness, if we had T. Henry you would still probably piss and moan. Jonas is a world class winger that is still young and still getting adjusted to the english game. he has some things to work on as does just about every player in the league but he is a world class player with his crazy runs shredding d’s and opening up the other wing when sides try to defend it. As for routledge he is a young player who is rough in spots but he has embarrased back lines for us in the dhort time he has been here. If he continues to improve him and jonas will be tough to handle on the flanks. Strikers need to be addressed. Big Andy is getting better every game. Loven has goals in his boots. Not the fastest, strongest, most technical player but he scores…Best i think could be good he has just been unlucky at times. Might keep him and loan him out. Nile ranger is a star we just have to polish his skills. Need to loan him down to a championship club that will start him regularly. I don’t know lads, maybe i just love newcastle so much that my loyalty blinds me but i think the largest junk of this side is premier league ready. As much respect as i have for butt he has to hangem up. Would like to see him coach…Fabrice pancrate just isn’t consistant and i think you let him walk on a free. alan smith is a rock in the central midfield but thats just it, rocks don’t move much…lol i think pairing nolan and guthrie is a much better combo. Maybe you keep smitty for experience and maybe he surprises everybody and accidently puts the ball in the onion bag one of these days. The back line is solid i think. Tayls, colo, simpson, williamson, and the jose are keepers no doubt. Simpson has grew up quick , williamson has been a steal at a million pounds, tayls is top class, hope him and andy get right, colo has stepped it up big time this year and seems solid for the english game, and jose is simply a beast (or bull). I do think we need to find a better keeper. Harps is solid but we need a world class keeper if we have ambitions of living in the top half..what yall think?

NUFCELITE, you just don’t pay ’em anything. The plan is for them to be cabbies in the evenings after training and they can live in youth hostels in South Shields. I figure they need about 200 quid a week to make ends meet. lol
