It looks like Andy Carroll will miss out tomorrow at Peterborough United.
Shola Ameobi – set for start tomorrow afternoon
Andy is still feeling his ankle and as usual, Chris will not risk the player if there are any doubts at all, and we don’t expect Carroll to even travel to Peterborough for tomorrow’s game..
And of course Shola Ameobi is all ready to step in for his first start at the club for quite a while and the local lad will be keen to add to his goals total, which is 9 in 9 starts at the moment.
Shola looked so sharp on Monday night in his first appearance since mid-January, after he’s had trouble recovering from a hamstring injury.
Manager Chris Hughton said today:
“We certainly haven’t ruled him out but he’s probably got a better chance of being involved on Monday (when Newcastle entertain Sheffield United),”
“If he’s not available to play he won’t travel, no. If he has a chance then he will travel.”
“It’s great to have someone like Shola with his quality available to call on. I’m sure if he hadn’t had his injury problems this season he would have scored even more goals at this level.”
With two games over this Easter weekend, Hughton will need to utilize his squad, which he has generally done very well this season.
And with most other players now available, Chris will have some selection posers to make, after he left Alan Smith, Nicky Butt, Joey Barton and Tamas Kadar on the bench, and they will all be due some starts before the end of the season.
And then there’s Leon Best, who has become the forgotten striker at Newcastle as Shola is obviously now preferred to leon right now by manager Chris Hughton.
With Peterborough being in last place in the Championships we expect Chris to field another attacking side in a 4-4-2 formation, and hope to get a few goals tomorrow afternoon – but we can take nothing, absolutely nothing for granted.
