Chris Hughton will have Alan Smith, Joey Barton, Danny Guthrie, Nicky Butt and Kevin Nolan all vying to start in central midfield tomorrow afternoon at Peterborough, where we expect Chris to play an attacking 4-4-2 formation.
Alan Smith – fit and available again
With Newcastle having another games on Easter Monday against Sheffield United in the evening, Chris will need to use his squad well and we’re sure he’ll do just that.
This is what Chris said today about his selection challenge:
“The decisions I have to make regarding selection are nothing to do with where we are at the moment.”
“They’re based around the fact that there’s a game on Saturday, and a game on Monday.”
And Shola Ameobi is back with a bang having put in a great performance in the second half of last Monday night’s game against Forest.
And we expect Shola to start tomorrow, and we’ll even be looking for more goals form the 6’2″ striker, who had 9 goals in 9 starts so far this season.
And Shola scored a wonderful opportunist goal on Monday night from just outside the penalty area, when closely marked by two Forest players – and it wasn’t even a half chance!.
Hughton seems to value Shola as a good striker at the club as he said:
“Shola’s played well played and showed what we all know he is capable of.”
So it’s anybody’s guess what the team will be tomorrow, but Chris will have to hold some players back, who will then start the home game against Sheffield United on Monday night at the Cathedral on the Hill.
Here’s a possible team for tomorrow
Simpson Williamson Coloccini Enrique
Routledge Nolan Smith (c) Gutierrez
If Chris plays that side we may even see Guthrie and Joey Barton starting in central midfield on Monday night
And Chris has said that Joey Barton is very much pushing for a starting position, and looks good in training.
Finally, we wouldn’t be too surprised if Tamas Kadar is given a start in central defense on Monday night, because the 20 year-old Hungarian looked so great last time out at Doncaster Rovers.
