West Brom had a good 3-0 win at home this afternoon against Leicester City, and are now just single point behind Newcastle on 82 points after they completed 41 games played.
Roberto DeMatteo and Chris Hughton – automatic promotion pair?
Chris is telling Roberto how big his bonus is if promotion realized 😀
Goals from James Morrison on 38 minutes and a couple from Robert Koran on 45 and 85 minutes was enough to give the Baggies a comfortable home win against a decent side, although that was Leicester’s fourth consecutive defeat.
Leicester now lie in the final (6th place) playoff position, with Blackpool just a single point behind, but a better goal difference after both clubs have played 41 games. It’s going to be close – for sure.
So it was not a pleasant return to The Hawthorns for former West Brom assistant and caretaker manager Nigel Pearson, who also recently held the same positions at Newcastle United. Nigel of course only last season got Leicester City promoted from League One.
The win also improves WBA’s goal difference to 38, just 8 behind that of Newcastle, so hopefully our lads can get a decent win tomorrow at Peterborough.
Newcastle do have 2 games in hand, but the win puts WBA 12 points head of Nottingham Forest who are in 3rd place, although Forest now have a game in hand, which they will play at Bristol City tomorrow afternoon.
It’s starting to look like the two relegated clubs form the Premiership last season will soon seal automatic promotion, but hopefully the Magpies can win the league.
Newcastle play at Peterborough tomorrow afternoon and back at home against The Blades on Monday night.
88 points is the maximum points Forest can now get by winning their remaining 6 games and Newcastle are already on 83 points with a game in hand on Forest, and WBA are on 82 points with a game extra played than Forest.
But all the Newcastle are now thinking about is getting all 3 points tomorrow afternoon at Peterborough. 😀
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #1Forget Forest, they are in the play offs, have been since last Monday! We need to keep the eyes focussed on 100 points so we can stay ahead of WBA & win this league comfortably. So let’s not hear about Forest again, Ed!
Our biggest hurdle to hanging onto this the top spot is the ever improving Blackpool who now have Leicester in their sights after today and will be looking to do the double over us at St James’.

Comment #7Really right now i don’t care if West Brom keep winning, as long as we keep winning, which we are really in the mood to just never loose again especially at home, in front of 40-000 to 50-000 fans. Do you guys think the last home game of the season which is at Ipswich will be over 50-000 sell out? Really hope so, to make the players want to win more and bring Newcastle where we really belong.

Comment #10I think we can get some more goals if R.Taylor plays instead of Simpson. R.Taylor has awesome deliveries. Crosses and free kicks, created some of our goals.

Comment #11Leicester have really started to bottle it in the last few weeks. At this rate they will miss out on the playoffs.
