As expected, Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has made some changes to the side this afternoon at Peterborough, for the first of two games in three days.
But the defense remains unchanged from last Monday night’s win against Nottingham Forest, and Steve Harper, Danny Simpson, Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson and Jose Enrique keep their places.
But captain Alan Smith returns to the center of midfield, with Danny Guthrie rested, and Joey Barton comes in for his first start since last September.
Frenchman Fabrice Pancrate also get a start on the right wing.
Both of our first choice wingers, Wayne Routledge and Jonas Gutierrez drop down to the bench, and will start on Monday night, no doubt.
Up front, as expected, Andy Carroll (ankle) misses out but surprisingly Peter Lovenkrands is rested, so the two big lads start with Leon Best and Shola Ameobi up front.
This is a good chance for Leon to get off the mark at Newcastle, and show us what he can do – we wish him all the best this afternoon.
3 points today coupled with a Nottingham Forest defeat (or even a draw) at Bristol City would mean that Newcastle are promoted, and some celebrations can begin – and it will be no coffee for us, thank you very much.
The bench is very strong in case Chris needs some of them in the second half – take a look at this bench – Tim Krul, Tamas Kadar, Peter Lovenkrands, Nicky Butt, Wayne Routledge, Jonas Gutierrez, Ryan Taylor
