Lots To Do As Newcastle Prepare For Premiership Re-entry

There’s a lot of work for the Newcastle club to do this summer, so the Tyneside club is fully prepared for re-entry into the Premiership.

Mike Ashley – we expect him to again support Hughton this summer

These are some of the things that both need to be done, and some things we hope will happen, that will hopefully result in the Newcastle team being able to hold their own next season in the Premier League, without being in another relegation fight.

That’s the very last thing we want to experience again next season.

Here’s some things  the club will be pondering:

  • We expect the following players to leave in the summer – Fabrice Pancrate, Nicky Butt (retires), Fitz Hall, Kazenga LuaLua and we would expect at least four permanent new players to be signed this summer   and two younger players to be secured on a season long loan.
Exactly who Newcastle bring in will tell us just how ambitious Mike Ashley will be for next season. As far as transfer cash goes, we don’t expect there to be more than £20M made available – if that. In fact we’d be surprised if that much was made available, and Newcastle will again concentrate on bringing in some bargain buys, like we did in January/.
  • It seems the positions we need to strengthen are full back, central midfield, winger and striker, and as the summer comes we’ll get more into what players Newcastle can potentially  recruit.
  • As far as the strikers are concerned we have 5 of them – Carroll, Lovenkrands, Ameobi, Best and Ranger – but we wonder if there is enough quality there. Hopefully Nile Ranger and Andy Carroll with again both improve big time next season – but Leon Best has been disappointing since he was brought in last January, although we expect Lovenkrands to be a shining light again next season for us.
  • A big unknown of course is whether Chris Hughton will be up to managing against England’s top teams and managers. Chris has been just great this season, but in the two periods he managed the side last season he had just one win, and it was hardly much of a record. But Chris will be given the chance next season, that’s a certainty and we have to hope with the new fight and passion in the team, we can get the results we need.
  • If Newcastle are to be successful next season we will need to have both Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor both pulling together for their home-town club, and if would be daft to sell either player this summer – it should not be necessary and both players want to stay on Tyneside in any case.
  • We hope that some of our top youngster players like Tamas Kadar, Nile Ranger, Andy Carroll, Danny Guthrie  and maybe even Haris Vuckic can come through next season, and if they improve as much as they have this season, we’ll be in good shape.
  • One way in which Chris can get some class into the side is by signing a couple of younger players on loan for the full season from the top clubs. These younger players will not have the experience, but players like Jack Wilshere, Patrick van Aanholt and others can increase the quality and creativity of the Newcastle squad. But we’ll need to play whoever we bring in regularly, since that’s what their parents clubs will want, otherwise it’s of no benefit to the parent club or the young player.

Those are some of the things we were thinking about – your comments on this are very welcome – but the squad must be improved big time in the summer.

    Interesting Ed,

I feel The following players will go:

S.Taylor (unfortunately I do see him leaving)
Ranger – loan ( I would like to see him go on loan for the season to maybe a Championship team)
Ameobi (He has done very well this season whilst he has been given his chance and i struggle to see him fitting in the squad for next season.)

We need to buy at least 4 players and to be honest 5 or 6.

We need a fullback. preferably one who can play left and right and challenge for both positions.

Another playmaker in the centre of midfield. We cannot rely on Guthrie to play this role alone.

We also need a top class striker. This is the most important position we need to fill. If you look at the teams who have done well this season and who might not have done, eg Sunderland (unfortunately) and Fulham they have both had a striker who has thrived. Bent and Zamora. We NEED to fill this position.

A winger to challenge Routledge and Jonas

Pancrate, Butt and Hall can all go but I would not give up on Lua Lua yet.

I’d send Ranger out on loan to a coke club and get him playing regular games. I think the young Man U player Cleverly looks like a skillfull fella and he has competitive games under his belt. He would not cost a huge amount and Man U may be willing to let him go if they get rodwell in from Everton. I would also offer a cheeky 4 or 5 mill for Nani as our winger option although his wages may be a stumbling block. God knows what he is on currently. Upson from West Ham could be an option for centre back if they go down.

dont know why you all want fitz hall out. he’s a very gud player and would be a great reserve player if anyone wer to get injured and the boy has a good bit of pace along with his height!!
Guthrie will have a good season as he wants to show people he can be a good player in the top league.
carroll must stay and wen i think of carroll i think of the time shearer brought him on against stoke and wat a header he scored to screap a point. il say we’ll finish 13th next season.
bring in joe ledley, van aanholt, and michael bradley(american centre mid) quality player, and add a good striker but cant decide who!

Not sure about Hall. He would be a back up centre back behind Taylor (if he stays) Coloccini Williamson Kadar. So he would be our 5th choice CB. Do we really need him?

I am inclined to be more of a positive person and as such I think CH should be able to handle the prem, after all he has worked in the prem for a long time so it is not really much of a surprise to him in terms of pressure and expectations.

He was at spurs in the prem and worked under people like Ray Clemence, Doug Livermore, Osvaldo Ardiles, Gerry Francis, , George Graham, Glenn Hoddle, David Pleat, Jacques Santini, and Martin Jol.

Of those the likes of George Graham, Glenn Hoddle, Martin Jol, Osvaldo Ardiles, Christian Gross were none to shabby.

Then at NUFC he worked under KK, so he has had plenty of fairly successful managers to copy much the same as Mourinho being mentored by our own SBR, so I do not think CH has all that much to worry about to be honest.

We need clarity on the manager and owner front before we can even think about rebuilding for next season. Ashley should come out with a statement, makeing it clear that Chris has 100 percent of his backing, also he should signify what our aim is for next season back in the premiership(i.e to stay in it). With this we can then forget all the off field issues and concentrate on improveing the squad for the start of next season because it deffinetly needs improveing if we are going to stay up.

What i would like to see is this:
    Butt (retire)
    Hall(don’t extend his loan)
Best(hasn’t done enough to warrant a place next season even though i think he’ll be here)
Pancrate(no need to renew his contract)
Xisco(yes he is still at Newcastle, sell him on and make abit of money)

    Loan out:
Forster(back to Norwich, hopefully in the championship)
Lua Lua(let him have one more season on loan to see if he can make a name for himself)
Tozer(benefit from more regular playing time)

    To bring in:
Patrick Helmes: Bayer Leverkusen striker, who has a great eye for the goal, would cost a large sum of our available funds, but we need a top striker to have a chance of staying up

Jamie O’Hara: Has been Portsmouth’s stand out player this season leading them through everything, not wanted by Harry Redknapp anymore and would slot nicely into our centre midfield, great worker and he wouldn’t cost the world either

Gaël Kakuta(LOAN): Would really offer something for us has immense skill, could come off from the bench in last 20 minutes and change a game, bring him in on Loan until January if it works out make it last for the rest of the season

Patrick van Aanholt(LOAN): Proved in January and Feb that he is capeable for us, and would be a perfect backup for Enrique if he got injured, a full season loan would work well for every party

George Boateng: (Only if Hull go down), yes he isn’t the young player, but has wealth of experience and is a real fighter, wouldn’t be in the first choice team, but when injuries occured would be a great backup and a fighter for those tricky away days

Ander Herrera: i really think that this guy could become our midfield maestro for years to come has immense talent and skill and can really sink a killer pass

costello I think getting rid of Hall would encourage Kadar to stay on.

I think he is a future star and if we lose STaylor well need as many players who were part of this group that got us up as possible

we have a good relationship with r.madrid..let’s get benzema on loan 😀 yeah i know..he wouldnt come.. there are not many great strikers out there..so we need to spet wisely..& if we cant get class..then dont buy anyone!

as for CM…gourcuff would be briliant…simply briliant..but yes..i guess man utd will sign him.. so..other options: ireland, obi, aquliani (rafa’s 2nd worst manager ever (BS the worst:))…spends millions & then doesnt give players a chance.. moyes assebled a great squad who can compete with anyone with money he got from rooney, & rafa spent 3x as much on a team who’s worse every season – thank good we didnt go after him 🙂 ), so..any other CM who fits the bill? & again..if we cant get class..then dont buy anyone – sign players on loan instead.

Can’t see us going for any of those players to be honest with you…And it’s a bit naive to say if you can’t buy class don’t buy at all…I’d never heard of Enrique, Jonas or Williamson before we got them – established players aren’t always the best option!

DanNUFC – I’d be happy with any of those options! Altidore has been a bit of a revelation as has Donavon, however, I think if he went anywhere it’d be back to Everton!

for the past god knows how many seasons i have thought about who we will sign in the past summers and my views havnt changed its just nice to have a team with some fight in them .
theres only 1 man that will decide our reign in prem and thats MA i have every faith in CH if given the financial backing i suppose we will just have to sit back and watch that space?

Nice post. Our strikers will find it hard against top class defenders, we’ll definitely need at least one quality striker.

Defence: Danny Fox from burnley class left foot there going down aswel, does any one think that we should sign Alan Hutton? Yes hes played for the mackems BUT he has been immense there? Look we are even after him: http://www.tribalfootball.com/spurs-boss-redknapp-says-sunderland-face-newcastle-competition-hutton-744361
Midfield: if we get Juan Albin and Jamie O’Hara our midfield will be class maybe with the further addition of albert riera, out of favour at the reds?
Striker: Steven Flecther class at burnley compared to the others there, maybe Kevin Doyle if wolves go down

    Just a few points:

    a) Does anyone else think that we need players that can play defensive midfield? Do you think Nolan, Barton, Guthrie etc can play that role well? I think Smith is out of his depth in midfield in the Premier League…

    b) I don’t really know who we should sign, but I’d like them to be from the lower leagues if possible – someone who knows about NUFC and see the club as special, not just another stepping stone in their career.

    c) I also think we have to bear in mind players’ personality – will they fit in with the rest of the squad? Apparently we’ve got genuine team spirit and I’d take a decent player that fits in with the rest of the players over a superstar prima donna any day.

BT7MAG – yeah i know… i’m not saying we should by names..but players with class…who are good.. id hate it if we bought another smith or best just cos we need players.. any loan signing would be as good as those 2..if not better..

btw, what do you think of z.tosic? for some reason fergie never gave him a proper chance in EPL, allthough he scored on almost every match for the reserves…he’s 23..can play on both sides, very skillfull & fast…& currenlty on loan at Koln…i think we should sign him up as soon as possible – cos when WC starts..he’ll cost alot…every serbias player will cost a lot…they have 1 of the best sides on the planet…& i really think they have a chance of wining WC…

Why give Premiership experience to other teams’ youngsters when we won’t give Championship experience to our own best young ‘uns?
You are all about how great Wise and the Ashley youth policy is yet you aren’t campaigning for ours to get a start.
Van Aanholt was preferred to Kadar time and again and now Kadar is showing he wants a fair shake. Sure, the Chjelsea lad did great, but would we not have a better asset ourselves had Kadar got some of those games?

Once promotion is guaranteed, Hughton should give some of our top youngsters some experience and the encouragement of a start.

I can’t remember the last time Ranger got a start – people are even saying its because he’s being a naughty wee lad after hours. Is he not at least as good as Best when he gets a chance?

Kadar has not let us down and is starting to show he wants matches – give Colo a rest – he’ll hardly complain with the World Cup looming and start Tamas.

Perhaps Vukic can get on for twenty minutes in any of the remaining games and judiciously blood one or two other of our best youngsters.

Apart from encouraging these lads and showing they will get opportunities at the club, it also keeps up the competition for those first team regulars who may be tempted to ease off the gas with promotion in the bag. If seniors can see we can still win games with one or two youngsters in their positions, it will keep everyone on their toes. This opportunity to bring on our young players is worth more to us than getting maximum points or completing the season unbeaten at home if that happens to be sacrificed, because next year such opportunities will be a luxury indeed.

My opinion on this season so far has been very good. However as most people have said, inorder to stay up we will need to add to our squad.

In all honesty I feel we have a good enough defence at the moment to cope and that any new defenders coming in would just be to add strength to what is already a very strong side.

However, where i feel we need to strenghten is the right side of midfield and upfront.

Wayne Routledge is currently our first choice right wing, and as good a player as he is he is not premiership standard. He was a very smart signing for a championship side, but as he has proven before at the likes of spurs he lacks what it takes for the premiership.

Therefore, i would suggest bringing Jamie O’hara in from portsmouth who can play on the right and the centre of midfield, i would also suggest looking at Jimmy Bullard if Hull are to be relegated. If we can get one of these two players in then we can always push Danny Guthrie out to the right, where he has proven himself earlier in the season.
Another winger who i would like to see return to Newcastle is Charles N’zogbia, he has been wigans best player this season alongside Figueroa who is one the players who i would like Newcastle to sign for upfront.

As for another striker, i could suggest Emile Heskey who is currently out of favour at Villa, although i feel he may be a pricey target.

Fletcher from Burnley is an obvious talent, hes proven to be Burnleys best player alongside their skipper, he is a proven goal scorer and i can see him being a real fan favorite if he gets the right service from our very attacking midfield.

    Any thoughts?
