Joey Barton had had quite few injuries during his 31 months on Tyneside, and it may surprise Newcastle fans that Joey has only appeared 40 times for the Magpies with just 31 starts.
Joey Barton – wants the supporters to be able celebrate tonight
It was really good to see Joey return to something like his bets form in the second half on Saturday afternoon, and he started to look really good again.
But we have to have Joey more available, and we’re sure Chris Hughton will be seeing what makes Joey get all these injuries, and hopefully try to make him more available next season, when we’ll need all his skill and experience.
Joey talked to the Evening Chronicle today and wants to be able to have Newcastle supporters celebrating with a glass of Newcastle Brown Ale after the game in the City center:
“It was most probably my best moment as a Newcastle player. I’ve a had few all right ones.” “I remember going down to Tottenham Hotspur and we played like Brazil.”
“But that was a good feeling in my first start. Hopefully that’s the start of a load more.” “I came to this football club to do that. I have a great deal of affection for the club and want to see it do well.”
“It’s not only me, there are 22 other lads who feel the same.” “We want to see our fans enjoying themselves; they’ve been with us all season and had the same mentality as the players.”
“As I say, I want to see a few Brown Ales being sunk after the the game.” “Not by me and the players, as we still have a job to do, and not for me because I’m a tee-totaller!”
“But certainly in the stands and around the town they will be enjoying themselves.” “It would take a monumental collapse from us and an unbelievable run from Forest.”
“We just focus on what we’re doing.” “We did that on Saturday, and there was an FA Cup tie feel to it.” “We have had 23 of them this season and there are a few more to come.”
“The gaffer picked a side to go out and get a result and thankfully we did that.” “Tonight it could be a big night – hopefully we get the right result.”
“Then the Geordie nation can go out and have a few jars.”
That game at Tottenham Hotspur was when Kevin Keegan was in charge, and the lads took Spurs apart with a 4-1 win on 30th March, 2008 at White Hart Lane.
And the lads came back from a goal down, after Darren Bent had scored the first goal for Spurs – but on that day visions of Kevins’ first reign on Tyneside came flowing back, as the lads attacked and attacked and attacked – it was fabulous to watch.
Joey was just one of the players who played well that day, and for the record the Newcastle goal-scorers that magic day were Butt, Geremi, Owen and Martins.
And we know why Joey is tee-total and needs to stay that way – because when he has a drink he has a tenancy to become violent – so we’re glad to see Joey is staying tee total.
And one thing about Newcastle Brown Ale – it’s the favorite drink of students in this area over here in North Carolina, where we have three top Universities in Research Triangle Park, so it’s a very popular beer, but of course people don’t know it originates from Newcastle.
And if Joey’s talking about wins with that number of 23, we actually now have 25 wins in 40 games – fantastic.
One thing the players will need to do tonight is to concentrate, because as things have turned out, they have a chance to give the Geordie fans a promotion party tonight.
We wonder how Chris will get the lads ready before the game tonight – this is something we’d like Chris to tell the players just before they leave the dressing rooms:
“You all screwed up last season and the fans of this great club were devastated.”
” Now you have a chance to repay them for their tremendous loyalty to you this season.”
“So go out there and see if you can repay them with a really good win and performance.”
Don’t you dare screw this one up.”
Words like that will have the lads start tonight’s game like the proverbial steam train – which is what we expect them to do tonight.
