Leon Best had yet another frustrating afternoon at London Road on Saturday and Leon still has to get off the mark at Newcastle.
Leon Best – still to score for Newcastle
Leon Best, since he arrived form Coventry in January hasn’t looked too good, but he’s been unlucky as far as goals go, with the lad going close a few times since he’s been on Tyneside, only to hit the bar or see the goalkeeper make a great save.
What he needs for his confidence like any striker is a goal, and then hopefully we’ll see the real Leon Best , and that’s no doubt what Chris will be hoping for too.
Manager Chris Hughton talked about Leon today and Chris was asked if he needs a little sympathy:
“I don’t know if sympathy is the right word, but with any striker, goals give you confidence,”
“He played his part, but you want a goal for him. This is a lad who has scored goals and it will come for him.”
Leon should get plenty of chances in the next four weeks to get his first goal for Newcastle, although we are expecting Ameobi and Lovenkrands to get the start up front tonight against Sheffield United.
Leon Best played 112 times at Coventry and scored 23 goals, and in his career he’s played 169 times with 45 goals.
That’s about one goal every 4 games (3.75) and in contrast to that Ameobi has 60 goals in 273 appearance, which is about one goal in every 4.6 games, slightly worse than Leon.
Newcastle need just one point from their remaining 6 games to ensure promotion this season.
We should be able to do that and if not, then we look to Nottingham Forest to drop one point in their remaining 5 league games.
