Newcastle United have been promoted back to the Premier League after just a single season in the Championship.
Chris Hughton – the man of the moment – “a wonderful achievement”
With Nottingham Forest failing to win their game today at home to Cardiff City, where the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate, Newcastle are now mathematically certain of one of the two automatic promotion spots.
3rd placed Nottingham Forest are on 72 points with 4 games to play, and can only reach 84 points and are therefore unable to catch Newcastle, who are already on 86 points.
Chris Hughton on hearing the news said:
“This is a wonderful achievement and we are absolutely delighted.””That we have secured promotion with six games to spare is testament to this set of players and how good a season they’ve had.”
“This is what we’ve been building towards all season and I’m delighted for everyone associated with the club.”
“But we’ve got a game in less than half an hour’s time and one we very much want to win.”
“Our focus now is on that because we want to celebrate promotion with victory in front of our magnificent fans.”
The fact that Newcastle are now promoted must not distract from Newcastle going all out for a win tonight against Sheffield United, as the club must try to finish top of the league.
It will be a fitting tribute to the Newcastle United fans, who have stood by their team during some tough times since Newcastle were relegated last year on May 24th, a terrible day in the history of Newcastle United.
And with 2nd placed WBA dropping two points at Watford this afternoon, Newcastle must now stand an excellent chance of winning the league, and equaling the achievement of Kevin Keegan’s side of 1993, which won the Championship with 96 points.
Newcastle also have a chance of completing the season undefeated at home, which was last accomplished by the 1906-1907 side, and that side also won the League One Championship.
We are still looking for a win from the lads tonight – nothing less will be good enough – and it’s a great chance for the lads to show just how professional they have become this season.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #13us fans deserve hell of alot of praise for sticking with our team let alone club after the farce that went on last year, well done to everyone, i just hope this sinks into ashley and his cronies even more now, especially after they see a party like never before toneet, such pleasure seeing that running yella strip along the bottom of ssn, only thing that spoils it is that philandering deviant tiger c*nting woods

Comment #25let the party roll but now the hard work starts.
Peter Whittingham, Michael Chopra, Charlie Adam, Billy Sharp & Nicky Maynard are no Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba, Carlos Tevez, Fernando Torres or even Darren Bent so our defence will not be so good and only allowed 9 goals home and is carrol ready for the likes of Evra, Vidic & so on everyone get the picture rite ?????
