West Brom Draw Gives Magpies Chance To Win League

The chances of Newcastle being able to win the Championship were improved this afternoon.

WBA manager Roberto Di Matteo – team drew 1-1 at Watford

West Brom were held 1-1 at Watford this afternoon, but it was a very late goal that got West Brom the point.

After 85 minutes Watford had gone 1-0 ahead with a goal from Danny Graham,  and that was just 6 minutes after Watford’s John Harley had been sent off, to reduce Watford to 10 men.

It would have been a terrific 3 points for Watford in their fight to avoid relegation, but an equalizer from Chris Brunt deep into injury time salvaged a point and deprived 10 man Watford of  a precious 2 points.

Newcastle are now 3 points clear of WBA with two games in hand, one of which they will play this evening against Sheffield United at St. James’ Park, where a point will see the Newcastle club automatically promoted back to the Premiership at the first attempt.

The most points West Brom can now get if they win their remaining 4 league games is 95, so Newcastle will need to get 10 points from their last 6 games to be assured of winning the league.

And maybe even less than that, since the Newcastle goal difference of +47 is superior to that of  WBA (+38).

In other Championship results this afternoon, Reading continued their excellent form of late with a 3-0 home win against Coventry, Middlesbrough had a good 2-0 win at Plymouth, and Leicester City stopped their run of four successive defeats with a 4-0 hammering of QPR at home.

Ipswich Town continued their winning ways with an excellent 3-1 win at Derby County, and Roy Keane’s side now seem to be safe from relegation being on 54 points, 9 points clear of the relegation zone.

Blackpool, who visit Newcastle on Saturday, continued their good form with a 2-0 home win against Doncaster Rovers and are now a single point away from a play-off position.

Comments welcome.

Very very lucky result for the baggies.
By the sounds of the pundits 2day they seemed very nervous and couldnt even manage a shot on target until late into the second half..
If they continue like this should be an easy title run in for us..
+ I wouldnt mind seeing forest just nick 2nd from wba, would take a minor mirracle but just think Forrest deserve it that little bit more..
It would also be a handy 6 points for us next year..haha

Finally I wouldnt mind seeing Steve Harper called up 4 the world cup, and maybe if Thierry Henry wanted to change countries he would even be a good goal keeper for england..

    I will never 4get it.
If it had been robbie keane or god forbid Leon Best done what henry did fifa would hav the match replayed or Ireland thrown out of the world cup.
And also really disagreed with fifa making the world cup play offs a seeded thing just to make sure the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and henry and their countries made it to Africa.

    Sorry for the rant lol.
Think its 10 points for the league but u could be rite with 9.

    U for the match 2nyt Geordie G?

I don’t think we could get Dorrans, they will want 6-8m if they go up! I would rather spend that kind of money on others and IF (I think its 99.9% certain not to happen) we sign Albin on a free then we will be doing well! 😀

let the party roll but now the hard work starts.
Peter Whittingham, Michael Chopra, Charlie Adam, Billy Sharp & Nicky Maynard are no Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba, Carlos Tevez, Fernando Torres or even Darren Bent so our defence will not be so good and only allowed 9 goals home and is carrol ready for the likes of Evra, Vidic & so on everyone get the picture rite ?????
