Can Newcastle End Season With 9 Game Winning Streak?

Chris Hughton has the players back today at the Benton training grounds, , to prepare  for a tough game against an in-form Blackpool side at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Hughton – this great shot of the gaffer was taken on Monday night

Chris told the Evening Chronicle today:

“What we’ve got at the moment is the feelgood factor here and a lot of confidence.” “We’ve had confidence all season and that has enabled us to be where we are.”

“The confidence comes not just from Monday, getting promoted and everything that goes with it, but the fact we’re at home and the form we are in.” “There is a real buzz here at the moment among the players and the staff.”

“I suppose if you didn’t have that then there is something wrong.” “We’re now looking forward to taking on Blackpool in front of another big crowd and extending our unbeaten record.”

But it would be so easy for Newcastle to lose their concentration now that automatic promotion has been earned so early, but we have a feeling that the very professional  Chris Hughton will just not let that happen.

And from what we’ve heard from some of our senior players like Kevin Nolan , Steve Harper and Alan Smith, the fight is now on to win the Championship.

In any case the lads have significant pride in what they’ve achieved so far this season, which should see them through the remaining 5 games.

Hughton continued:

“There is a big relief we have done it at the first go.” “We’re all aware what another season in the Championship would have meant.”

“There are a lot of plusses and now we want to get back to the season and finish the job in style. What this year has been about is being professional and you’d expect that from this group of players on the evidence of what we’ve seen throughout the campaign.”

“We’re in danger of two very tough games of football now.” “We’re up against two teams in great form.” “The aim has to be to win them both.”

“It’s back to basics for us and back to work.”

As we said yesterday, the lads should take the remaining 5 Championship games as training for next season, and go into every game trying to win it, so that when we start in the Premiership next season we just carry on the fight, albeit against much stronger opposition.

It would be great if Newcastle can win their last 5 games and end this fantastic season on a 9 game winning streak. 😀

“We’ve got these four wins on the bounce, which is magnificent, but I want to see if we can top that now and beat Newcastle,” said the Blackpool boss Ian Holloway.

“We have turned them over at our place in September, so wouldn’t it be nice if we can say we took six points off Newcastle.

Please don’t let it happen. I hope instead that “Ollie’s words come back to bite him, and that it’s Newcastle who turn them over.
Not by 2-1 , but by three or four hopefully.

The Reading game will also be difficult, but if West Brom can get a point there, then we can get a win. Five games and five wins please.

There’s nobody left to play that we can’t beat easily, but teams like Blackpool make me very nervous. They’re plucky and have nothing to lose by going all out for the win.

I want five wins, confirmation as Champions in the next two matches and our unbeaten home record preserved.
