Nicky Butt Has Some Big Decisions To Make This Summer

Nicky Butt is nearing the end of a great career, but we think he may get some offers this summer to stay in football at least for one more season.

Nicky Butt – has decisions to make this summer

Chris Hughton has a decision to make on Nicky Butt’s future at Newcastle, but it seems  fairly obvious this is Nicky’s last season at Newcastle.

The experienced midfielder’s contract runs out in the summer, and he becomes a free agent, and we think his experience and gutsy play will be an attraction for some of the lower level clubs in the Premiership.

The Newcastle manager insists that no decision has yet been made on Butt’s future on Tyneside, and Chris talked fondly of his 35 year-old captain:

“We have not spoken to Nicky, but we will be dealing with that.”

“Nicky has been a real big player for us, irrespective of how he has played, in and around the changing room, whether starting or on the bench.”

“He would have preferred a bigger part, I am sure, but he has been magnificent all season.”

Nicky’s leadership skills behind the scenes at Newcastle this season is just one of the reasons we’d love to see Nicky take up a coaching position on Tyneside, because we think Nicky is good for our club.

Having been brought up through the Manchester United Youth ranks he knows what winning, week in and week out, is all about, and that’s the attitude we need at Newcastle, if we are ever going to be successful again.

But it may be difficult to turn down a one year contract if some Premiership clubs come in for him during the summer.

But Nicky is also very honest, and if he thinks he cannot do the job on the playing field he may not be tempted, and may be happy to settle for a coaching position with the Magpies, and that would be very good.

Nicky’s been great behind the scenes this season, and was one of the players who was determined to stay last summer.

He was good in his time but I’d like to see him take a break before jumping in and coaching the team. We already have good coaches.

Charlietoon, you give him the reserves and promote Allan Thompson.

I wouldn’t mind keeping him as a ‘player / coach’ role as Speed did at Sheff Wed, after all, if he only gets a game as back up, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to keep him on just in case. Lets face it, his best playing days are far behind him, however, he is a good organiser from the centre of the midfield. Shame he can’t pass a ball any more like.

Does Nicky have his coaching badges yet? I’d be happy to have him as a coach with the experience he has as a player but it would be an awful decision if CH offered him a playing contract.

Doubt he’ll hang around, I thought he used to commute from Manchester with Owen, doesn’t his wife and kids still live there.

I’d imagine he’ll take a role of some sort at Manure rather than carry on commuting to the toon.
If he signs a new contract I’d be surprised if his wages would cover the commute (unless he’s up for national express coach!)

The-Ciaran 8 how can you sell a player that’s out of contract mate.Don’t feel Nicky will be here next season as his legs wont stand up to the speed of the game in the prem so don’t think he will be offered another contract, however i would not mind him coaching for us, as the man has a vast amount of knowledge about the game, that he could maybe put across to the players in our squad.
