Newcastle Reported After Jamie O’Hara And Philippe Senderos

The News Of The World today is reporting that Newcastle’s Chris Hughton is targeting two cut-price players once the summer transfer market opens.

Jamie O’Hara – Newcastle target for the summer

One player, who has already been mentioned as a potential target for Newcastle, is  23 year-old Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who has been on loan at Portsmouth this season, and could be available for as little as £3M.

The other player is Arsenal center-half Philippe Senderos, who will be allowed to leave in the summer, when his contract with the London club runs out, and he will become a free agent.

Philippe is currently on loan at Everton, but cannot get his place in the Blues side.

The rumors on Tyneside are that Hughton will get around £25M to spend in the summer transfer window, if he needs that much, but Newcastle will continue to try to get bargain buys as they did in January.

We would like to think the Magpies are indeed after Jamie O’Hara, who is a good player and would add some creativity in the middle of the park for the Magpies.

But we’re not too sure why Newcastle would want or need Senderos, who is prone to making errors at the back, although he has also had some solid games at Arsenal and while on loan at Milan (14 appearances – no goals) last season.

Certainly he has massive experience both in the Premiership and European Champions League with Arsenal.

The 25 year-old, 6’3″ Geneva-born Philippe Senderos has played about 70 times for Arsenal with 4 goals, but has only made two appearances while on loan at Goodison Park since January, and has played 33 times for Switzerland with 6 international goals.

He joined Arsenal in 2003 when just 18 years-old from Swiss club Servette, based in his home town of Geneva, where he had played 26 times with 3 goals.

The 23 year-old O’Hara was also brought through the Arsenal Youth ranks from 1995 (when he was just 8 years-old) until 2003, when he joined Spurs.

Jamie has so far played over 50 times for Spurs with 3 goals, and while on loan this season at Portsmouth, the player has looked impressive in 25 appearances with 2 goals, and he played 7 times for the England U-21 side.

These two players for £3M in total would be a decent deal for the Newcastle club, but we’re not sure why we would need another center-back when we have Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Williamson and young Tamas Kadar all challenging for the central defensive positions.

Unless of course Newcastle intend to move one of their current players out this summer, but we would hope that would not be the case.

We like the look of O’Hara but are not too keen on Senderos – what do you think about these potential deals?

Comments welcome.

I don’t think these 2 players are bad, but the main thing we need is a proven promising goalscorer. A really true one, that is where the transfer market should start. Ed how u said there might be 25 million transfer money, i believe that can increase to about 30-35 million if we sell Smith/Barton and the rest crappy players we have. Is Juan Albin ours or not in the summer? O’hara wouldn’t be bad, while i don’t know about Senderos. Does make some errors but then you have to see.

Sendoras is a good player and a few mistakes when he was young have stuck with him….however no thanks, ALWAYS injured.

O’Hara hmmm hell yeh. Managed to perform in a poor pompey side.

Yes to O’Hara but harry drives a hard bargain and would rather send someone on loan for their career or bench them than sell them for a reasonable price. he’ll ask for more than 3

Not sure entirely why we would be interested in either player to be honest. I have nothing against either player, and I agree, the errors by Senderos have stayed with him from his youth, and isn’t as bad is he is often vilified, O’Hara seems nothing special to me, yet another holding midfielder who at times seems to drift in and out of games. I can only think this would be an attempt at adding depth, but surely there are better options out there?

Agreed. I don’t see O’Hara offers us something different to out current midfielders.

People are forgetting that off the field he’s only going to bring a media circus with him. With his Serial Wag Danielle Lloyd in tow. I thought we were meant to be moving away from the playboy footballers with more ego than talent?

Fletcher and Doyle partnership with Carroll switching in and out.

O’hara seems a nice buy but i understand the concern is he really needed or is he just young and english why not gamble on that Skjabred or whom ever since we have players like O’hara unless we are getting rid of either smitty or barton but i’d still take him if his mind is right

And who is this Mathews from Cardiff? He may be worth a go.

Adam Matthews is right back also can play in the mid, interested Arsenal, Manchester United earlier this year. Has some speed, may be a worth a go.
Doyle and Fletcher would be unstoppable up top.

ED Senderos 25, thought he was older than that, he seems to have been round an age,if this is true i hear the bell tolling for Steve Taylor. As for O’Hara if we want him, i think we need to tie it up as quick as possible, but not for any more than 4 million. As for Doyle sick of hearing idiots say sign him up,well if yous want to sign him up there’s not much point in going to the prem as with him, we would be right in the relegation fight, so if he comes championship keep our spot warm, well see ya after next season with Doyle up front, hardly shot wolves to great heights has he.

I don’t have the same faith as you do in our current centrebacks Ed. I really dont understand why you rate them. Coloccini will probably struggle in the PL once again, the championship is an entirely different thing. Taylor is always injured. Williamson isn’t really PL tested is he? Kadar is not the finished article yet. To me centre back is one of the most important places to strengthen this summer and I’d consider shipping Colo out to raise funds. Senderos is not the player I would go for though.

Colo out, IFK Gothenburgs Sigurdsson in (cheap deal, young great player) and also one centre back with routine and proven abilities needs to be bought.

Seabass there is nothing wrong with the defence.Dont think williamson will have any prob steping up to the prem myself as for coloccini hes been the main stay of the defence and think he will still be here next season. If any 1 of the defenders leaves, it will be steve taylor mate.

will take Ohara if we sell Smith, he can also cover 3 positions, so will definitely take him

will take Senderos if we loan out Kadar, Kadar is a hot prospect, but he will need regular first team football to grow, loan him out to championship club next season

but if S.taylor leaves, will never want Senderos to replace him, he is definitely not good enough

    NUFCELITE-
I havent seen much of Doyle but with all the praise he gets which includes Mr. Wenger he must have something going for him.

Anyways its obvious we need atleast one striker in who is better than we got and Carroll is going to get his goals by the way he plays but we need something else up top Id love to see C Cole but that could be a hard sell and I think West ham will stay up. So where do we go? Who can we get in maybe the Doyle, Fletcher, Cole, Altidore. or can we bring in a top striker from abroad we need a shooter from range.

I personally dont think Ameobi and McLovin should be starting in the EPL sure after this year Mclovin deserves to stay on board but should be for cover.

We need a Bent and i am finding it hard to think of one but i do think we have a team in which the right striker will thrive in and to me Doyle and Fletcher seem a crative pair

Senderos is a good player. He is error prone and so is S.Taylor between the two I taje Senderos on any day. I say Senderos at Milan he was good because Milan had belief in him at Arsenal, Wenger jst doesnt give him the support. I remember Arsenal went unbeaten in the champions league with Gallas-Senderos partnership not until the liverpool where every thing went south.

Senderos is a better defender than what we have now.

MickyD, I watch a lot of La Liga and Xisco has been nothing short of horrific this season! I think he has a mere 2 or 3 goals and has not been in the team much at Santander due to not looking interested and just being useless! I think we need to cut our losses and try to ship him out unfortunately!

Smith, Guthrie, Barton, Nolan, O’Hara. All British Midfield.

The other problem with Senderos is injury prone.

whats all the fuss about stephen fletcher and kevin doyle. both down near the bottom , one almost certainly going down. they have scored 14 league goals in 57 games this season BETWEEN THEM. that kind of strike rate would almost certainly end in relegation if that was your strike force.

OHara name keeps cropping up and although hes a talented player, i wonder who’ll make way as we have an abundence of central midfielders in Smith, Nolan, Guthrie, Barton and Butt (if he stays)
I certainly wouldnt want any of the above to leave. The calls for Smith to be sold, surely are fans with short memories as he was outstanding 1st half of the season.

OHara out of all the CM is similar to Barton, very similar imo.

    Senderos………no.

if its bargain basement we are looking at . the likes of joe ledley . cardiff. out of contract wouldn’t be a bad shout to pad out the squad.
to be honest none of us have a clue what the transfer budget is and thats the way it should be. lets just wait and see. you never know we might end up pleasantly surprised. ………. then again. 😉 just enjoy the moment as believe it or not we have no input into transfers in and out.

The only striker I wld take in is Albin. He is fast and knows what to with the ball. People saying that Lovenkrands cant cut in the EPL. Yesterday he jst had an off day.

For Bst, I wld give him time. If he fails u sell him in Jan. He has a good work rate good in the air and has a good cross for a striker so he camn bring in other players in the game. he needs time.

    Best, Shola, Carroll, Loven, Albin.

    Sell – Xisco
    Loan – Ranger

smith was outstanding 1st half of season but was more of a protector in front of back 4 than a central midfielder. as the team has evolved over the season and the goals have started to flow he has become less and less involved as he is very limited in what he can offer going forward.

    The entertainers –

I would be quite happy to see Smith, Butt and Barton go.

Butt on 60K a week has been finshed a long time.

Smith is very injury prone and admits himself his best days have gone, although he can hold his own in the fizzy pop league, he’s simply not worth 60K a week too.

Barton never plays 3 games in a row and is also on 60K a week.

Whether you like it or not these days you have to run football clubs as a business or do a Portsmouth.

If Albin comes that would be excellent as we’ve missed a player who can play ”in the hole” or behind 2 strikers since Beardo. Beardo was the most creative player I’ve ever seen in that position.
