Better Strikers Available To Newcastle Than Ivan Klasnic

There are a number of reports in the press,  suggesting that Newcastle are interested in 30 year-old Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic, as manager Chris Hughton begins planning for life in the Premier League.

Ivan Klasnic – too old for Newcastle

The Croation striker is currently plying his trade at Bolton Wanderers, and is on a season long loan deal from French club Nantes. Ivan has scored 6 goals in 22 appearances for Bolton this season, so far.

But those reporting the interest mustn’t have heard that Mike Ashley will only bring new players into the club this summer who are 26 years-old or younger, and Chris Hughton is well aware of that.

That seems like a decent transfer policy, because Newcastle are building for the future, and also would hope to get more bargains in the summer.

Newcastle picked up 3 players in January, Mike Williamson, Danny Simpson and Wayne Routledge – all for around £3.5M,  and all three are starting in the Newcastle line-up and look like bargain buys.

Hughton knows he will need to add more quality to the squad in the summer, and it seems like full-back, central midfield, winger and striker are areas where some new players will be brought into the Tyneside club.

Kris Boyd of Rangers

As far as strikers go we could do a lot worse than Ranger’s 26 year-old goal machine Kris Boyd who has scored 126 goals in 187 games for the Scotiish club.

We also still like the look of 26 year-old Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford, but we know that’s not necessarily the thinking of the majority of Newcastle fans.

Jermaine has 27 goals in 42 appearances so far this season for the Yorkshire side.

Jermaine Beckford of Leeds United

Jermaine has 164 first class appearances in his career and has scored 90 goals, and both these strikers come at a good price in the summer – nothing – since both are free agents.

Charlie Austin of Swindon Town

On the younger and less proven side, Newcastle have also been linked with 20 year-old 6’2″ Swindon striker, Charlie Austin, who has 18 goals in 26 appearances for his club this season.

Either of these strikers would be better deal for Newcastle than going for a 30 year-old striker – so we find it hard to believe there’s any truth in the story that Newcastle are interested in Klasnic.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Agreed with comment above Fletcher has had a great first season in a very poor side, also has the pace to cause defences some problems
Would link up well with Carrol.

Would be very disappoint if we went for Ivan Klasnic or Jermaine Beck ford as Ivan is to old and Beckford though he has scored 90 goals there in the lower leagues. As for Kris Boyd think he could be a real possible to come into the toon.As for Charlie Austin think if we sign him he would be 1 for the future.

i think we should look for a pacey, explosive type of a striker, something for never replaced Oba Martins in fact! im not sure how much it would cost us but quagliarella or cassano would be top choice.

Ever since Jermaine Beckford was linked with us he has done nothing. So going to get a player who hasn’t found the back of the net in League One since the January transfer window shut would be a step backwards. I believe Hughton will wait until the season is over to see what young Premier League talent is available. That’s what were lacking is Premier league quality players, which I have no doubt we will get.

In that case its a no brainer!! Even if he turns out to be rubbish we will be able to sell him for £1m to a championship team and it will be OK business. Or he does well for us and is a bargain

Klasnic is maybe a bit old but he is also a very good player with experience. I have always liked the player and he would probably come for a very small amount of money too. If we were to sell ameobi and bring in klasnic I would say it was a good deal. honestly!

WHY ON EARTH WOULD WE WANT BECKFORD??????

Booed off by his own fans at the weekend for his lack of work rate! Stay well clear… at 26 and never played higher than League One… then HE’S TOO OLD!

How old is Beckford then? Might be too old fpr us aswell. Per Ciljan Skjelbred from Rosenborg Norway should be our first signing. Lets go for both Fletcher and Boyd. Then a winger that can play on either wings. The missing link is then an experienced midfielder aged 26 or so.

Issac, I bought some rechagreable batteries for my camera, but you have to charge them before you can use them! What use is that in an emergency situation, flat batteries out the pack, the tight sods! Couldn’t even charge them before they put them in the pack.

I think that we should go for that Austin the lad looks top draw and surely he would want to come to a big club where he has a good chance of actually getting games. Plus he has a Rooney neck, which can only be a good thing.

The-Ciaran 8 agree there we should be looking at players who can do a job for the club.If i was Ashley i would of given Chris the free transfer list, and seen what he can get from that first.I would of also getting Chris to draw up a second list of players that we would have to buy in case we missed out on his free targets, so if 1 of the frees gos somewhere else, go after the player on the cash list for that position.

I don’t beilieve that Boyd is good enough to play against top defences however would be good against some of the weaker teams in the league.
This is proven in the fact he rarely scores in the champions league and has only scored once against celtic!

Boyd well he ain’t that good for the epl..I think at some point we forgot we r in top 20 richest club in he World and I don’t think Cris have the qulity to manage a club like that ..I know he did a great job this year but what did u expect we have epl players …let’s see our squad
    Harper …good
Simpson …ya he have to learn how to defend
    Colo..good
    Taylor…very good
Jose..was good this season but can’t say about the epl cause he mad huge mistakes in epl
    routledge…not good enough for epl
    Nolan…good worth the epl
    Danny boy…absolut class
Jonas…good for cocacola but the dud must learn to pass the ball straight
    carroll…big future
loven…will score at least 10 goals next season
hall…I don’t even know why we signed him
pankrant…seriously I am better than him( not joking)
kadar..of he moves from the toon he will be just like millner absolut class
    Barton..good enough for the epl
Inman…if we don’t give him a chance he willl move and be like millner
donaldson …can some one find him a club that will take him on loan
krul & foster …loan them both
lua lua…he would have been a starter if king keV was here

No No No!!!!! I would hate Derdiyok!!!!!! He is a Target man type of player!!!! Admittedly of the right age but we need a very quick, clever player which can finish! Someone like Rodellega/Benitez mould I think would be awesome as I have said all day long!
