Chris Hughton has again praised the Newcastle fans today.
Chris Hughton – waving to fans before the Sheffield United game
Hughton talked to the Evening Chronicle today about teams in the Championship:
“There are no surprises for me in this division, because there are so many good teams in this league.”
“Sheffield United are a very strong team, and I would have expected them to be challenging.”
“Of course Middlesbrough are very strong, and Cardiff, they’re so used to this division.”
“Did anybody expect Leicester, having won promotion last season, to challenge?”
“I wasn’t sure what to expect.” “There were a group of teams I expected to be strong, and Reading were one of them.” “There aren’t really any surprises.”
“On most occasions anybody’s been able to beat anybody.”
There are over 4,000 loyal Newcastle fans making the trip to Berkshire, and Hughton again has said they will have a major part to play during tonight’s game.
These are the fans who follow the Newcastle team through hell and high water, and this season has been magic for them, as their loyalty has at last been rewarded by the players and coaches at the Newcastle club.
Chris continued:
“It’s a big game for their supporters.” “We’ll take our normal big support, and there’ll be an atmosphere at the stadium.”
“It’s an opportunity for them to gauge themselves against a team which has already won promotion.”
We have a strange feeling that this could be a very difficult game tonight for Newcastle.
So a win would have to be a great result, but the lads will need to start the game strongly, and not like we started at Bristol City for example.

Comment #2I’d like to think that MA and his crew say something to acknowledge the support the fans and in particular, the travelling Toon Army has given this season.
It’s been nothing short of marvellous and way above start-of-season expectations.
Would it be too much for a public acknowledgement of the fans over the PA system before and after the game?
That surely wouldn’t be a bad move but is it a realistic thought?

Comment #5There’ll be a hell of a lot more than 4000 of us there Ed. I live just down the road from Reading in Newbury and the place if full of Newcastle supporters. My local’s pretty much black and white when the matches are on telly.
Loads of us had to get tickets in with the home support for this match. I would think that there will be a lot of black and white dotted around the Madejski tonight!!!
