Fabrice Pancrate Unlikely To Stay At Newcastle Next Season

Chris Hughton has today paid some compliments to Newcastle’s French right-winger Fabrice Pancrate.

Fabrice Pancrate – after scoring that great goal at St. James’ Park

The winger looks set to leave St. James’ Park this summer after failing to make an impact at Newcastle – even though he scored that tremendous goal last year at St. James’ Park, on December 5th against Watford, which will be long remembered.

But he’s been very inconsistent when he’s played, to say the least, and was even taken off at half time, the last time he started at Peterborough.

But Chris Hughton has today praised the player:

“He is out of contract in the summer so I have a decision to make there.”

“Fabrice is a player who has not had the opportunities he would have wanted, but he has added something to the squad. He has given us something in all the games he has been involved in”

“He would not have played as many games as he would have wanted, but has been part of a very good and very competitive squad.”

“I would not underestimate what he given the squad.”

We’d be very surprised if Hughton signs Pancrate in the summer, since we have to assume there are better wingers out there, who can press Gutierrez and Routledge for a starting position next season.

We do expect Chris to bring in another fast winger, but not Pancrate.

Comments welcome.

Sounds to me like Hughton is covering all bases there.

Keeping squad moral high, admitting that he wasn’t great (hence the lesser amount of playing time) but also suggesting merit (if we HAVE to have him back due to no other choices being available).

Chris Eagles would be a good signing if Burnley were relegated. Can play on either Wing.

I’d like to see Butt, Shola and Pancrate go, and one of either Barton, Smith and Nolan and replace them with a more creative midfielder.

No room for sentiment in EPL. Get rid.
CH seems to be assessing fringe players atm doesn’t he?
One thing I’ll say is both Pancrate and Best have had chances in the team, and neither of them have done well.

Pancrate signing was an initial boost, but after ‘that goal’ he has done nothing.

It will be a major surprise if hes here next season.

Having said that if he moves on we do need another winger…….Cleverley for me.

Thought when he scored his goal, thought we had a decent player, though after watching him for a while now, i dont think hes good enough for newcastle and his defending leaves a lot to be desired,so dont think chris will keep him.

I dont know where i was before but the subject was all about the ins and outs or recommended ones for summer 2010. But, lets be honest, we are all watching the same magical stuff this year, albeit a league below where we all want to see the mags… We have done magnificient.. and the spine of the team is going to be good enough. Yes, some players will have to pull their socks up, like Coloccini… who has probably coasted through most of our games… but … the players who just havent cut it… are there for us all to see. Leon Best…. AND…. Fabrice Pancrate… one wonder goal isnt enough… Look at Routledge in comparison… he has been a revelation… ok, maybe he is some way from being the next Nobby Solano… but look at the way he has slotted into our team with ease…. brilliant…

Next season… yes, we are going to need reinforcements… but i cannot believe there are folk out there talking about Nolan leaving, he has been brilliant… and maybe the pinacle of our success has been his input, especially when playing in behind the striker…

We probably had the most expensive side ever to be relegated… so, it is my view that the spine (Harper, Simpson, Enrique, Colo, Williamson, Hall, Smith, Nolan, Guthrie, Routledge, Gutierrez, Carroll, Lovenkrands) should be kept.

Outside of that there are alot of ifs and buts, can Stevie Taylor become one of the lads again? who knows… ideally, yes… cos he isnt a bad player… maybe he may no longer be first choice, i’d say not… he has been out of the picture… and lost his place… but if he goes, then we should be looking for around £7m, but if he was to stay, well, he could give cover in the defensive positions, and really, all of us want to see us having good strength in depth defensive wise. Now, eventually, we are starting to see this developing.

Shola – probably the most talked about player, albeit not always for the right reasons, every season, will he be moving on? what we know is, he can score goals at any level!!! (Barcelona – away in the CL LOST 3-1) BUT consistently… he is never fit enough long enough for any of us to see) BUT lets face it, he is still better than Mamade Sidibe. So, we are no longer money bags United, we shouldnt be too desperate to get rid. OPEN TO WHAT MAY HAPPEN

Pancrate, promised so much… but has failed to deliver… or to make a lasting contribution. This, not surprisingly, is one of the key areas of any team, wing play…. and Routledge has made it, Pancrate hasnt. I understand Routledge to have made 8, compared to Pancrate’s 2, plus Routledge has bags of pace and has fitted in perfectly, GET RID…

On one of the forum pages, i saw someone listing Joey Barton as a captain… What? Kevin Nolan.. why not… but Joey Barton… no way… well, not until he shows us why Sam Allardyce paid £5.8m and 60k a week.. cos i dont think any newcastle really knows why yet… We seem to have had a hell of a lot of negative PR in return… long spells on the sidelines too. At least we saw magic and raw pace from Kieron Dyer… (as a comparison). OPEN TO OFFERS (could we get 4 or 5m? )

Leon Best… well… again we have all seen what he has brought to the team so far… NOTHING… all that has happened, is the spritely and exciting Ranger has seen less games… The household of Magpie fans that i belong to, only wants to see more Ranger… he was… and hopefully will … continue to blossom … Football is one of the things, where if you dont take your chances when they come… they end up passing you by…. MOVE HIM ON… FOR £1-2M

Ryan Taylor is probably the most frustrated member of the squad. He has done almost enough to get a game without shining massively but is still behind nearly everyone else, and despite feeling like i know most of the teams strengths and weaknesses, i cant quite figure out where he would belong positionally. Somewhere like right back or left back as cover maybe… I wouldnt want to see him go, but if he wanted more games, i would say fair enough and thankyou for your freekicks. OPEN TO OFFERS OVER £3.5m

SOOOOO… where do we need to strengthen… full backs yes… one who could play in different positions right back or right midfield (like Ryan Taylor if he left) and the same at left back.

People are talking about Jamie O’Hara.. but i just dont see it.. He is a central midfielder, left sided… i wouldnt want to see him in ahead of Nolan, NOOOO WAYYY MAN… Guthrie has also come out of his shell this season… and hopefully he can continue doing that next season. So… not sure about that one. Also, i dont think he is really a strong defensive midfielder either… and thats probably the main midfield area we need to strengthen.. If we do let Pancrate go… which, hopefully we do… then… bring someone like Chris Eagles from Burnley… or maybe someone Gabriel Obertan from Man Utd on a season long loan… they must have thought he was good enough… and maybe just needs more games, BUT… defensive midfield is the main area of the team to restrengthen… I did however see a post about Gamst Pedersen… HEY, if that guy is available, we should move for him for sure… i cant believe Allardyce would let him go… but if he did… well, yes, he would be someone of the right PROVEN PREMIERSHIP QUALITY… and that would help to reinforce the team, GUTIERREZ could in turn play some games on the right… and maybe in behind the striker.

    SO, striker department.
Lovenkrands and Carroll have been brilliant. If they had got in on sooner, we would have wrapped up the league in March instead. I’d like to see us bring back Marlon Harewood, why? well, he has proven premiership experience and also the ability to score goals, he has clicked with all the players already and has largely been cast aside by Villa. It could be some good business by the club.
