Newcastle Interested In Scottish International Charlie Adam

There is news today that Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, who is 24 years-old, is interesting Newcastle United.

Charlie Adam – former Rangers midfielder

The 6’1″ Adam, who started his career with Glasgow Rangers, has been impressive this season at Blackpool, where he’s played 40 times with 15 goals – that’s almost as good a goals return as our own Kevin Nolan.

It’s fairly clear that Chris Hughton wants to bring in one central midfielder this summer, so we’ll be hearing about a few of them before anything really happens.

But from what we can tell, Charlie looks a really good player who can play central midfield or out on the left.

And the news is that Hughton has been impressed with the performances of Adam, who played 97 times for Rangers during 2006 and 3008, with 18 goals.

Charlie was out on short loan spells in Scotland to Ross County and St. Mirren between 2004 and 2006 where he played around 50 times with 11 goals.

Charlie played at Blackpool on loan from February, 2009, and then in August, 2009 signed a 2 year contract at Blackpool, for a record £500K transfer fee for the Seasiders.

He’s now played a total of 53 games for Blackpool, with 18 goals and has represented Scotland 4 times.

It also looks like Bolton Wanderers and Fulham are after the Dundee-born player, but if  Newcastle really want him, we have to think we are a more attractive club for a Scot than those two.

And Charlie played the full game for Blackpool in their 4-1 loss, so he’ll knowall about the crowd and support on Tyneside, where 47,000 fans turned up for that game.

In his football career so far Charlie has played 191 first class games with 47 goals.

And from what we can tell, this lad looks like a good player.

Comments welcome.

Once again, my issue with us buying centre-midfielders is that they have to be better than what we already have…I don’t know enough about him to comment?

You look at this in different ways:

No Prem exp & we have enougth C.M

Then you could say look at Tim Cahill from Millwall to Everton quality deal!

Always a risk but never really seen him play, quite a few goals though anyone agree?

This player may be a good acquisition. He is still about 25 and has played for Scotland. He is a central midfielder and fits with the report that we are also interested in Portsmouth’s Wilson (who is a recent Irish international and really a midfielder). Whoever we get we are, according to the press, aiming to recruit a central midfielder it seems. Perhaps Nicky is moving into a coaching role with us?

Hi Ed. According this article, he’ll be playing at Rangers for another 998 tears. We should go for somebody less contract tied.

adams is also a left sided midfielder, so is backup for jonas and marc wilson is a defender that can play anywhere across the back four, therefore also making him backup for jose and danny simpson, both can play central midfield aswell but will probably be primarily bought in for cover and competition

Nice footballer with a good range of passing, but too slow. We need somebody with a bit more pace.
My guess is that Blackpool will want upwards of 3 million as well.

It may be Chris Hughton’s thinking. Get in reliable players who can cover more than one position? Adaptability as well as quality could be the way to go. That is, of course, if we are actually interested in Marc Wilson, Adam, etc. Has O’Hara gone off the radar along with Hutton, or are these also in the minds only of reporters?

Could be that CH is happy with todays squad and just want to add dept and competition.

Hughton has dismissed the speculation with O’Hara. Hutton seems to have disappeared from being touted as a signing

If we are looking at central midfielders i think Steven Davis would be a great signing, creative spark and good on the ball. And for cover on the wings i’d get Niall McGinn of Celtic.

We do need some more pace for the Premiership that is true. I think CH has the germ of his squad in place and that he will add where we need to – a rounding off rather than a rounding up. Unlike the media pundits I think we will suprise the Premiership next season. Just like we did this season after we were written off so “expertly” last August!

    @TOON SWEDED

Are you happy with todays squad, personally I think we need cover & additions to the starting 11

I would disappointed if non of the summer signings are in our day 1 starting 11?

Was just speculating as none of the players link with us today seems better then what we got.

But with Newcastle United these days you never know who we might bring in, they always comes as surprises. Well except for Leon Best, that rumour was leaked out … but no one probably thought it was true then, hehe..

A cracking player in the CCC and has scored tones of goals. I like his versitility as we need cover on the wings and an attacking force through the middle would be welcome.

Scott Brown And Jamie O’hara , Personally I Can See Either Nolan Or Smith leaving .

    As For Strikers

    Carlton Cole? Would be Good

    Agbonglahor – Doubt it Mind

Boyd – I dont think so

We Should Get Alot Of Free’s In My Opinion

    Ciaran wake up.

Scott Brown is rubbish, Nolan is never going to leave – he’s a top player and will maybe be captain.

Agbonlahor? Are you having a laugh?

Free players are mostly rubbish at Prem level.

What ablout Giovani Dos Santos? Attacking midfielder with pace and skill. Different type of player to what we’ve already got.

Anyone who frequents this blog, the .org blog or BBC 606 likely has seen me argue about Scotland, Scottish players and the SPL in general.

With that, I am sure most people here will know I would be happy if this was true.

According to the Manchester Evening News tonight we are going to buy Berbatov for £18m according to Bulgarian sources. Appartently he is a Toon supporter since he was a bairn
