Newcastle Fancy Portsmouth’s Marc Wilson Plus Dutch Striker

There is news today in the Sunday press, that Newcastle may be interested in bringing in two young players to Newcastle during the summer.

Marc Wilson – Newcastle fancy this 22 year-old

One is said to be Marc Wilson of Portsmouth, who is a budding 22 year-old center-back who is in Portsmouth’s first team right now.

Presumably when Portsmouth get relegated at the end of the season, Marc will be made available for transfer.

The other player that Newcastle are reported to be interested in is Jeremain Lens, who is a 22 year-old Dutch striker,  currently playing for Alkmaar Zaanstreek in Alkmaar, Holland, generally known as AZ Alkmaar.

Jeremain Lens – AZ Alkmaar striker

The Amsterdam-born player has played 40 times for the Dutch club, and the 5’10” striker was at the Ajax Youth Academy when he was younger.

In the 2007-2008 season he went out on a season long loan to NEC, and played 31 times that season with 8 goals.

Marc Wilson is a 6’2″ Northern Ireland center-back who has become Portsmouth’s first choice this season.

Marc  has played 27 times for Portsmouth and was keeping Mike Williamson out of the side, when Mike was at the south coast side from September through January.

Marc would be a great signing for the club, and if he does come in he will provide significant competition to Coloccini,  Seven Taylor and Mike Williamson next season.

These look like two good players for Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Centre halves seem to be the order of the day. I aint seen any of these lads play but if Wilson was keeping Williamson out of the pompey defence then he must be a cracking player.

Ok players I guess. Lens might be a bit expensive though?

“The attacker’s current AZ deal is due to expire in the summer of 2013. The Alkmaar side appear to be reluctant to let go of Lens, but they could be tempted to cash in on the forward if an offer in the region of €4.5 million comes in.”

I like the look of Rodallega if Wigan go down, Fletcher in Burnley go down or Carlton Cole if West Ham go down.

Also why not put in a bid for Wheater at middlesborough, was talked about for England last season, and looks like the smogs could do with the money.

    Toon 1978 and Ed –

Wilson was only keeping Williamson on the bench because if Williamson played, he would have cost Portsmouth additional money. Which they obviously couldn’t afford.

Rodallega is being heavily linked with Arsenal – along with N’Zogbia. £22 mil for both are being reported. Too pricey, in other words.

Wheater has told he wants to stay with Boro no matter what. But who knows now they’re not joining PL again..

Who thinks Xisco deserves the same chance that Colo and Jose Enrique had to prove himself, he was in the Spanish under 21s, with Enrique, so its not as though he doesn’t have potential. Thoughts?

Xisco is shite. Hasn’t impressed on loan at all in Spain either. A poor version of Carroll.

That is correct mate i forgot about that lol. I remember that if Williamson started playing for Pompey then they would of had to pay Watford a certain fee. Williamson did not get a game because of that because obviously they did not have the money. Thanks for reminding me on that one newutd.

whenever I see Marc Wilson, I think he is a poor defender…I cant see why people think he is a good signing….he is slow, not tall enough, and lack of strength

and I m watching him now, covered Carew’s offside position that lead to a goal, then close to score an own goal with clearance….even the portsmouth fans criticise his performance…to be fair to him, he isnt a cb, just hope it is a rumours

as for Lens, I havnt watched him play this season, but when he played under van Gaal, he was another crap player, may be he has improved a lot now…but all I hope is those 2 rumours arnt true

Wouldn’t mind Jozy Altidore, but not for the reported 6.5mill deal Hull had lined up with Villareal.

Would seriously love it if we could sign Michael Bradley, 22 years old, complete box-to-box midfielder, has goals in his game, scores freekicks and not to be disrespectful, only plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Was quality in the Confederations Cup. Although wouls have to move fast as I reckon he’ll deff go up in price after the World Cup.

Tino Asprilla, obviously you have the most brillinant nick ever… But you also have a fantastic suggestion in signing Michael Bradley. He would be a quality signing at an affordable price and would probably jump for the chance to play for us! go, go go! I also would have brought in another argentinian in Jose ernesto sosa (bayern) who is currently out of favour. Chris Eagles is another wonderful target at a cut price!

Marc Wilson was shite today. I have changed my mind when it comes to him…not only because of todays match, but also because of what i’ve read from the different Pompey forums. He scored an own goal a couple of games ago, and was so close today as well. Unfortunante or lacking of “football mind”?

Lens – strikers in the dutch league are inconclusive asgoalscorers in the EPL – Kuyt, Babel,Vennegoor of Hesselink, Marvin Emnes, Kezman – there of course a few that have done well, but I wouldn’t go for him.

Wilson – a like what I said about Ledley – comes highly rated, but I’ve never seen/heard him do much.

Wheater – been rubbish in the CCC, 2007/08 season was a one off.

Watched Wilson in to-days game against Villa, not a bad player, subdued villas big strikers, probably a good backup and one for the future.
There`s a young midfielder at Wigan who looks better each game, Charles N`Zogbia, perhaps he may get his chance and go to Arsenal.
He certainly would`nt be out of place.

Wilson is the worst cb in the league this season , even the legend Bramble is better . and belive me i’ve watched a lot of pompey games this season .
but to be fair to Wilson , he’s not a defender , he’s originally a midfielder . and i watched him playing in midfield agianst Hull in the crazy match in Fratton Park, and he was even better than O’hara .\
if he’s always like that in midfield i would love to see him in the team next season, but as a mid not in cb !

and by the way Ed,i’m pretty sure that i saw Wilson playing for the Rep. of Ireland agains Brazil

Marc was just so-so today against Villa I thought.
And SaudiMagpie – Marc was a sub for Ireland in their game against Brazil in early March – that they lost 2-0 – but he was not used.
Presumably Marc has a lot of improvement still in him. He’s also played for both Northern Ireland at youth level – and Ireland too – and apparently there was a dispute over who he should play for – I guess Ireland won out.

good shout with Eagles, always liked the look of him, wouldn’t mind someone like Adam Lallana from Southampton, seen a lot of him this season and he is far to good to be in league one.

Tino Aspirlla…..Xisco got the same chance as enrique and colo but didnt take it. I’m sure Hughton would have given him a fair crack this season. He admitted to faking an injury to get a move away!

I like the look of Wilson, probably as a defensive midfielder as he seems tidy on the ball.

As far as the kit goes, it looks like someone has tried use the spurs kit to show what ours may look like. Looks pretty hot to be fair though.

As for the wilson lad he seemed a good player in the games i watched. Don’t expect him to unseat tayls or colo…

wonder if we have even scouted the young up and coming polish striker robert lewandowski…

hes only 21 and apparently courting interest from some serie a sides, scored 6 in 20 for Poland which for a 21 yr old is bloody good imo…

my polish mates are raving about him saying he is the best player to come out of poland in years…

checked him out on youtube and he scored a cracker against the republic of ireland.

would much rather take a punt on someone like him who has some international pedigree than that dutch guy…
