Expect Newcastle manager Chris Hughton to be be bombarded with calls from football agents trying to get their players to Newcastle in the summer.
José Manuel Flores Moreno – are Newcastle interested?
And of course it has already started with news today in the Sunday Sun that Newcastle are being offered two Spanish central defenders, as the plans are starting to pick up Tyneside for the return to the Premier League.
Spanish international Pablo Ibanez, who was born in Madrigueras, is available from Atletico Madrid, and is said to be offered to Newcastle.
But the 6’3″ player is already 28 years old and turns 29 in August, so if the rules that we’ll bring in only players 26 or younger, then forget about Pablo.
He has 23 caps for Spain, but we think he is too old.
The other player mentioned in the report is 23 year-old Spanish Under-21 player Jose Manuel Flores Moreno.
Jose has 3 caps at the U-21 levels and has played 41 times for his current club, Almeria.
Apparently Almeria have just turned down a £2.2M bid for the player from Serie A side Genoa, and Sevilla are also said to be interested in the 6’1″ center-back, who was born in Cadiz, Spain.
But with Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Williamson and Tamas Kadar currently fighting it out in central defense on Tyneside, we would seriously doubt Newcastle need a new center-back, unless they plan to sell either Coloccini or Taylor in the summer.
Or maybe they plan to send out Tamas Kadar on loan next season.
We don’t think they will sell any of our current central defenders, who have all looked very good this season.
And we are a little surprised that currently 55% of our readers are in favor of Newcastle signing Fitz Hall from QPR. We voted no – now th truth comes out!
Fitz of course is 29, and may be too old if that age barrier of 26 or younger holds up in the summer transfers to Newcastle, although he seems a smashing lad.
And we have to remember that there will be many reports on Newcastle being after new players this summer, and many is an understatment.
And it’s always hard to know which reports are accurate.
We would think we need to bring players in at right back, central midfield, winger and striker – those are the four positions that would seem to make sense.
What do you think?
