It’s a Sunday and no shortage of stories on Newcastle today, although most of them will not be true – but what’s new?
Steven Taylor – West Ham interested
There is news in the People today from Alan Oliver that West Ham want to get Newcastle’s Steven Taylor in the summer.
With the altercation between Carroll and Steven Taylor still in our minds, we can expect these two players to be news all the time in the summer, as going to leave Newcastle for some other club, and we have a number of clubs already said to be after Andy Carroll.
But you have to remember these two lads have both been brought up on Tyneside and are out and out Newcastle supporters, just like the rest of us.
So if there is still any friction between them still, we hope Chris Hughton will bang their heads together and tell them to patch things up – if only for the good of the home town club they both love.
So we expect both players to be in the Newcastle squad for next season, and hopefully for many seasons to come.
The news is that Steve Clarke, the Chelsea assistant manager who was on Tyneside for a year with Dutchman Ruud Gullit,, wants to bring in the 24 year-old former England Under-21 captain.
There is news today that West Ham want to bring in Martin Jol as manager in the summer, if they survive in the Premiership, and we cannot see Franco Zola or Steve Clarke there next season.
But apparently there is support in the West Ham boardroom to sign the Newcastle defender.
We cannot stop clubs coming after our players – in fact it’s a compliment, but we think Chris Hughton wants to keep all of his current squad and will only let Fitz Hall, Nicky Butt, Fabrice Pancrate and Kazenga LuaLua leave in the summer.
The good news is that Steven Taylor is back in full training on Tyneside, and hopes to play some part in the club’s final Championship game against QPR.
That would be great.
