There have been many heroes at Newcastle this season, but none bigger than rookie manager Chris Hughton.
Chris Hughton – loved by Newcastle fans – what a great photograph!
You have to remember this is the very first season in a 14 year coaching career that Chris has been in total charge of a football club.
And what a rookie season the man has had.
If this was Alan Shearer, Fabio Capello or Sven Eriksson leading the team, there would have been headlines galore about how great they were.
But it’s really hard to see how any manager could have beaten Chris Hughton’s record this season.
29 wins and only 4 defeats in 44 games and 98 points already in the bag – it’s just so unbelievable.
And when the lads have been beaten we’ve come back big time with winning streaks which shows trhe spirit and determination in this season’s squad.
Chris Hughton – he seems a little stunned – did a fan just kiss him?
This is what Chris said, after he had been rescued from the dressing room by the Newcastle official site people last night:
“It’s been a long, tough road but we’ve got there and I’m absolutely delighted,”
“This is just as good as the feeling of winning promotion and those scenes at the end were special for everyone connected with the club.”
“We knew we were in with a chance of winning the title a long time ago but when it arrived it was a tremendous feeling.”
“I think the title was thoroughly deserved and this group of lads have been fantastic.”
“They showed again tonight how much they wanted to win every game and I’m delighted.”
We don’t even know how good Chris Hughton could become at Newcastle, and we are not going to get carried away, well not too much anyway.
But credit where credit is due – and Chris Hughton is the Newcastle number one hero – there’s absolutely no doubt about that.
