News yesterday that we missed, is that Manchester United may be after our 17-year-old Slovenian midfielder, Haris Vuckic in the summer.
Haris Vuckic – budding superstar
Newcastle signed Vuckic from NK Domzale 15 months ago, and we knew at that time he was something special because the Slovenian club held a press conference to announce the lad, then just 16, who was already in their first team, was signing for Newcastle United.
But this season Vuckic has been out 5 months since October with knee and ankle injuries, and has only recently returned the fray, appearing in the second half of last Friday night’s Youth team defeat to Aston Villa, in the semi final of the FA Youth Cup.
Vuckic is highly regarded in the game, and we also understand Italian clubs including AC Milan, are monitoring the boy’s progress on Tyneside.
The reports say that the Red Devils may give Newcatle an offer for Vuckic we cannot refuse, but we have to refuse it, because Haris shows all the signs of becoming a world-class midfielder when he matures.
It’s like buying a Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard when they were 17.
And how much is a midfielder of that quality worth these days – a lot of money to be sure.
6’2″ Haris has made three first team appearances for Newcastle this season, and we expect this player to be pushing for a first team start next season, and expect he will get substantial playing time next season too – he’s that good.
AC Milan, where he had a trial before coming to Newcastle, Â are one of the Italian clubs who are keeping a close watch on him, but if Newcastle are going to return to greatness, we cannot become a selling club again.
And in any case Haris will get a lot more games in the next few seasons at Newcastle than at Milan or Manchester United.
Apparently Vuckic has two years left on his Newcastle contract, and Hughton should ensure that contract is extended in the summer.
We also expect other younger players to have their contracts improved and extended in the summer, including our two local lads, Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Robby Bobson – tosic useless? 😀 is 21..serbia international, which in my opinion have a real chance of getting a medal in WC. currently plays for koln..scored 4 in 10 matches and been voted mom also 4 times..& can play across the midfield.
as for serbia – 19 app, 4 goals & 6 assists i think. many players say he’s world class potential.

Comment #42fat ashley wanted to sell the club for 3 times it’s worth at one time, i’ve no reason to believe he will undervalue Vuckic, probably overvalue and price out suitors. hope so anyway. he’s the young player we are buying and bringing along to first team i thought, not selling (i.e., young — under 26, bags of potential, future of NUFC surge to top 6 and europe).

Comment #44The lad was just starting to make the bench & get some time on the pitch when he got injured so Chris was starting to introduce him. Hopefully he will stay & make an big impact next season but the horrible truth is that if man u want him & he wants to go the best we can hope for is a lump of cash with lots of strings attached. As for Ranger, he does look the part & would benefit from a loan spell.

Comment #45If he does not play in the last 2 games hes off. He even spoke to skysports today about the link to man u
Read this: “I heard the news about United wanting me, but if I’m honest, then I must confess I haven’t had any contact with them. I only know what was written in the press,” he told Ekipa.
“But of course I’m really flattered. It is a great honour to be associated with such a big and marvellous club.
“And yes, it is hard to say no to Alex Ferguson, who has a reputation of working very well with young players”.
Chris houghton if u dont play him then ur a mug!
