Newcastle United have again made contact with Norwegian side FC Brann to sign their highly-rated midfielder Erik Huseklepp, who Newcastle have been interested in for at least a year.
Erik Huseklepp – Newcastle target
The report suggests Newcastle tried to do a deal earlier this week, but his club Brann have become greedy and are now asking for £4M for their player.
That may be a problem for Newcastle during the summer, as other clubs know Newcastle will be more flush with money, now they are back in the Premiership.
But Newcastle may not be in the driving seat for the player, since news is that he may want to join Chelsea rather than Newcastle, and if that’s true we shouldn’t bother signing him.
Newcastle have bid £2M for the player, and it’s a matter of take it or leave it as far as Brann are concerned – and we like that approach, because there are many more good players that Newcastle can sign this summer.
The 6’2″ player can play right wing or striker, and Huseklepp has so far played 8 times for Norway, and appeared over 97 times for Brann with 21 goals.
Huseklepp has been at Brann since 2005, and before that played for Fyllingen 57 times with 6 goals.
But we should only bring players to Newcastle who want to come here, because we know what happens when they just come for the money – they disappear when the going gets tough – as we all witnessed last season to our horror.
