Chris Hughton has talked about this season, with the end of the season just a short 8 days away.
Chris Hughton – reflects on Championship season
Chris talked about what has been a terrific season:
“We got back OK!” “There have been lots of reflections since too.”
“After the celebrations you just look back on the season. You look back at the long tough road it has been and different results along the way.”
“We’ve clawed out results at times when we haven’t played so well.” “You look at the better performances and the bigger performances.”
“Games like away to Cardiff when we ground out a 1-0 win or the Ipswich game away when we won 4-0.” “You want to celebrate because it’s celebration time but you do look back and work out why you are celebrating.”
“When you add up all those wins it has amounted to lifting that trophy.” “It has been a very good season.”
Newcastle celebrated their Championship success last Monday night at Plymouth, when the lads finally secured the Championship title.
And even Chris allowed himself some champagne, but most of it seemed to miss his mouth and go on the outside of him, as he was continually sprayed with champagne by his players in the dressing room.
We expect the same scenes today after the game, when the club will be presented with the CC Championship trophy, but there’s a job to do first – and that is to beat Ipswich Town, so the party can proceed on schedule.
“What you saw at Plymouth in the changing room was a reflection of how together the squad have been.”
“It showed what they are and how hard they have worked as a group.” “It’s almost like a show of relief from a team that has worked all season.
“As we came to an end, the signs were that we were going to do it.” “But until you have actually done it, you can’t celebrate anything.”
“On Monday we could and it was a case of finally getting there.” “To secure promotion with six games was a wonderful achievement as well.
“It is testament to the two teams below – West Brom and Forest – who have pushed us all the way.”
If we can win the game today and at QPR a week tomorrow, the club will have ended the season on a 9 game winning streak.
What a way to end the season – and then we have all summer to look forward to next season back in the big time.
And that’s just great!
