Newcastle Pursue 22 Year-Old AZ Alkmaar Striker

News today that one player Newcastle are after this summer is 22-year-old Dutchman Jeremain Lens.

Jeremain Lens – 5’10” AZ Alkmaar striker

The Amsterdam-born striker has played 40 times for AZ Alkmaar with 8 goals,  and was on loan last season to NEC where he played 31 times with 9 goals.

This is not the first time there has been news, this time in the Evening Chronicle, that Newcastle are interested in this player.

It turns out that AZ Alkmaar are not in a good financial situation right now,  and the Chronicle is reporting that the Dutch club are inviting bids for some of their better players, including Lens.

Newcastle chief scout Graham Carr has apparently watched Alkmaar’s recent 1-0 win over FC Twente, who are top of the Dutch Eredivisie, and this is not the first time Newcastle have watched the striker.

The player has been capped 3 times for Surinam at full international level and has scored 2 goals for the side.

He has played 8 times for the Dutch U-21 side with one goal.

What do you think of this player?

Haven’t seen him play admittedly, and we need to be realistic and strike play isn’t always about goals and he is young….

But in the dutch league the average player bangs them in like one a game so 8 in 40?
