Chris Hughton Guided By Sir Bobby Robson

We hadn’t realized that Sir Bobby Robson was such a big inspiration to Newcastle manager Chris Hughton, but we are learning that he certainly is.

The great man – Sir Bobby Robson

Chris has been interviewed this morning and talked about the great man:

“I did feel his presence – you always do.” “His death united the club. When you have an individual like Sir Bobby who is so close to his football club, you take it with you – of course you do.”

“I don’t think you can be around this club in good moments and not have a feel for the people who have been here before – the big influences.”

“It is a special club, a club with a very local support. They hold their own very close and dear to them.”

“It is very, very difficult not to think of those people when you are here, and there is none bigger than Sir Bobby.”

If Chris wants to be guided by someone – then Bobby Robson is a great choice, because he loved the Newcastle club so much, and was a huge success in the 5 years that he managed the club.

One thing Chris has learned from Bobby is that the team spirit of the players is so important,  as he has made them get together often to form a good bond, and that has shone through brightly this season.

Chris continued:

“It is all sinking in. This is what you are in the game for.”

“We set ourselves targets and we achieved them. Of course, I am a bit disappointed we did not win the game, but that disappointment did not last too long.”

“It is a fantastic achievement to go through the whole season and not lose a home game. It is a very, very good feeling.”

We were disappointed that the winning streak was broken with almost the last kick of the game, but it shows how fantastic the lads have been this season in putting together two winning streaks of 7 games each.

But no excuses next Sunday – because we’ll have to win the last game at QPR and easily break the 100 point barrier – about every other goal this season has been achieved.

And then it’s on to strengthening the squad and getting ready for the big boys next season.

Like a certain Chelsea club, who walloped Stoke 7-0 yesterday.
