Many football pundits last summer reported that Newcastle would lose the support of their fans in the Championship this season.

But as usual these supposed football experts (what a laugh) were wrong – wrong again in fact.
Just like they were wrong when they were all shouting from the roof tops that Newcastle would become another Leeds United and be relegated to League One this season.
A few of them are are just whimps – who don’t even have the courage to fess up and apologize for the things they said about the club last summer, when the Newcastle club was on its knees.
Back to better things – the official figure for the total number of fans who attended St James’ Park this season was 1,037,455.
And on Saturday, Newcastle set a new Championship attendance record of 52,181 and that figure is bigger than the capacity of most grounds in England, including Liverpool’s Anfield, and Manchester City’s Eastlands.
Chris Hughton talked about the magnificent Newcastle support today:
“That’s an incredible figure.” “They have been a major reason why we have succeeded the way we have this year.
“But given the superb support at Newcastle, it is just normal for them to be so brilliant.”
We can expect most of Newcastle’s games next season in the Premiership being sell-outs – especially if Newcastle have more than a decent season.
