Coloccini Backs Argentina To Win World Cup

28-year-old Frabricio Coloccini will have to wait until May 25th, to see if Diego Maradona will include the center-back in the Argentine squad for the World Cup in South Africa, starting June 11th.

Fabricio Coloccini – has had a great season at Newcasle

Fabricio talked about the World Cup today:

“I don’t know about the World Cup yet,”“I think that it’s May 25 when (Diego) Maradona makes the squad. I don’t know yet, but I want to go. It’s my dream, but it’s up to Maradona this season so I have to wait.”

“I haven’t spoken to Maradona since we won promotion or the Championship title, but I have been in touch with the training staff, and they gave me their congratulations. Maradona will know that we have won here.”

“I think our success here will help if I go to the World Cup. I have worked hard. I think I have had a good season, but I have to wait for the decision on whether I go.”

Argentine were in very poor form in their qualification for the tournamenet, but they scraped through by beating Uruguay in a play-off match, when Gutierrez set up the winning goal.

But there was a lot of  pressure on Maradona to resign, but he didn’t and he finally got the job done for his country, and then smashed the journalists who had been calling for his resignation.

Coloccini still feels they will be one of the favorites to win the World Cup, and after seeing the form of Lionel Messi, who would argue with him?

Coloccini continued:

“I think Argentina could have a chance in the World Cup because it’s a big team, a big national team. It’s helpful if you’ve already won it before and everyone needs a bit of luck in a competition like that, but we know we have a very good team.”

“There are lots of teams to beat, Brazil, Spain, Italy, France, England, they are all the better teams and as always I think one of those teams will win.”

Jonas Gutierrez is a certainty not only to make the squad,  but to get a starting place in the Argentina side, and we are all hoping that Fabricio gets into the squad.

Certainly his play for Newcastle this season has been little short of magnificent, and one of the main  reasons why Newcastle have had such an outstanding season.

These are the attacking options available to Argentina:

    AGUERO (Athletico Madrid)
    HIGUAIN (Real Madrid)
    MESSI (Barca)
    MILITO (Inter)
    TEVEZ (Man City)
    ANGEL DI MARIA (Benefica)
    JONAS GUTIERREZ (Newcastle)

Goals and match winners all over the park. And we all know MESSI could win the World Cup on his own

Funny thing is with the Argentina squad, I usually tip them as probable winners for the WC, but I don’t feel it this year? It’s also the first time in recent years where I feel England cant win it, and yet I cannot explain why? I think it’s gonna be Brazil, and the Spain side that did so well in the EC still look like a good bet.

Thinking back on how many teams have the World Cup on the back of one hot striker, how can you bet against Argentina? The first five listed by Jamesthefirst all have 20 or more goals this season in three different leagues!

As jamesthefirst pointed out, I would be shocked if Argentina did not win the WC in the next 8 years with that calibre of player.

It’s wierd, I think on paper the squad are almost unplayable, but the weak link in the line up is the insane cross dressing cocaine addict manager.
