Now that Hull City have been relegated, there are some players who may attract Newcastle’s interest.
Stephen Hunt – available from Hull
Jimmy Bullard is one, but he is too old and too injury prone to be much use at Newcastle now, whereas Stephen Hunt is an interesting player.
Stephen’s a decent winger and works hard for the team, but has been out since February with his knee injury.
Wolves made a £5M bid for the player in January, and it was then touch and go whether he would join them, so they will be interested again, but Newcastle may be a more attractive club to play for than Wolves.
But the player turns 29 in August, so we had ruled him out because of his age, but we don’t know if that rule of players being 26 or under is hard and fast at Newcastle this summer.
Hunt played at Brentford and Reading before joining Hull last year.
He has played 27 times for Hull with 6 goals, and played 156 times with 17 goals for Reading.
But the player we like at Hull is their 19 year-old midfielder Tom Cairney, who has come through the Youth system at the club.
Tom Cairney – 19 year-old 6′ central midfielder
He’s looked a great player in the making during his 12 appearances this year with 2 goals, and the 6′ midfielder could be a better acquisition than Hunt.
Tom was born in Nottingham and has already represented the Scotland U-19 side.
But we would expect Chris to make some moves shortly in the transfer market, and we’ll get some idea of the type of player he wants to bring in to improve the Newcastle squad.
We’d like to see some younger players come in, rather than players close to or over 30.
