Some Hull Players Like Tom Cairney May Attract Newcastle

Now that Hull City have been relegated, there are some players who may attract Newcastle’s interest.

Stephen Hunt – available from Hull

Jimmy Bullard is one, but he is too old and too injury prone to be much use at Newcastle now, whereas Stephen Hunt is an interesting player.

Stephen’s a decent winger and works hard for the team, but has been out since February with his knee injury.

Wolves made a £5M bid for the player in January, and it was then touch and go whether he would join them, so they will be interested again, but Newcastle may be a more attractive club to play for than Wolves.

But the player turns 29 in August, so we had ruled him out because of his age, but we don’t know if that rule of players being 26 or under is hard and fast at Newcastle this summer.

Hunt played at Brentford and Reading before joining Hull last year.

He has played 27 times for Hull with 6 goals, and played 156 times with 17 goals for Reading.

But the player we like at Hull is their 19 year-old midfielder Tom Cairney, who has come through the Youth system at the club.

Tom Cairney – 19 year-old 6′ central midfielder

He’s looked a great player in the making during his 12 appearances this year with 2 goals, and the 6′ midfielder could be a better acquisition than Hunt.

Tom was born in Nottingham and has already represented the Scotland U-19 side.

But we would expect Chris to make some moves shortly in the transfer market, and we’ll get some idea of the type of player he wants to bring in to improve the Newcastle squad.

We’d like to see some younger players come in,  rather than players close to or over 30.

Comments welcome.

Have to say, I know it’s early days, but I’m really disappointed and underwhelmed with who we have been linked with so far.

Hunt 29, injury prone and on big wages
    Roberts 32, extremely average striker.
    Giully 33, on big wages.

The above hardly fit the protocol of 26 and under hungry talented up and coming young players

We should have got Moses and hopefully Albin is on the radar.

Hull were relegated because the players weren’t good enough and showed no fight….why would we want that?????

And I’m so glad they want down. The fans were singing Anti-Newcastle songs on the last day of the season as our defeat kept them up.

    See ya!

@Rotonda – you have to realise that the “links” come from the Agents of the players who try to tout them to clubs.

Nothing comes from the club itself.

Indeed its all shite its silly season and papers got to fill the back pages with lies..

hence we always get linked with every player and how many are truthfull..

we will come out the blue with a signing without the papers getting wind of the story..

we used to have a kick around at my village in north yorkshire when we were about 13-14 and tom cairney used to come down quite often. he was only about 7 or 8 but ran absolute rings round the lot of us, quite embarrassing but I’m not in the slightest bit surprised he made it as a pro. he was very small for his age, but you could never get the ball off him.

I think he would be a great signing.

Milburn and James the first yes I know but having got back to the premiership and on a bit of a high at the moment, you want to keep a positive momentum going.

Players like Darren Pratley, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Connor Wickham, Chris Eagles and steven Fletcher all players under 26 and seem to be in good form.

It is a bit disappointing to see who we are being linked with such as your Roberts and Guily, but i do think with the new regime that we are going to get a few suprises this smmer, good ones i hope

I reckon the club could do a lot worse than have a crack at Jonjo Shelvey from Charlton.

Cairney could be a good signing for the future, but how much would he cost?
Albin looks like he can play a bit but is he a brilliant/to inconsistant player?
I think NU’s fate could be sealed by the quality and quantity of free signings and loan deals we can find in the off season? If a few quality kids find themselves at the club on loan and we can land a biggish fish for a free then we are on our way…I’m thinking maybe wilshere, Van aanholdt and kakuta for loans and a guy like Boyd on a free even tho he looks set for birmingham!
This wood mean a few quality players for only wages and 15mil for tried and tru prem talent like boateng, o’hara, Fletcher, maybe D.Fox, Mark Noble and depending on the money generated from outgoing players a few foreigners such as the norweigin winger (don’t no his name), Landon Donovan and perhaps Irish talent A.mcgeady? Also depending on who Man city bring in Jo could be a loan target?

i would like to see us price jozy altidore from villareal. I know he headbutted that guy but come on, who doesn’t want to headbutt a f-ing mackem…lol..to me that means he is perfect for newcastle. His goals don’t reflect it but thats because he is on a terrible team. He has been a handful this season. He is young,19, and has prem league experience. I think he is a perfect fit. Donovan would be a good winger for us the problem is he is the face of mls and they aren’t gonna let him go cheap trust me im an american..anyways thats my ten cents…
