Chris Hughton has made it clear that Newcastle are not just going to turn up for the match at QPR on Sunday afternoon, for their final game in the Championship for a very very long time – we hope.
Chris Hughton – wants to get to triple figures in league
Chris wants 100 points this season, and therefore we need at least a draw on Sunday against QPR to reach triple figures for the season, but we would like to see a win to complete a really historic and uplifting season for the Newcastle fans.
Chris talked to Newcastle United TV today:
“Ever since we clinched promotion it’s been a case of setting new targets,” “First there was the title and then the 100 points.”
“That was something we’d never really spoken about at the start of the season, a points total, but now we’re so close I’m determined to achieve that.”
“It would be a tremendous achievement and it gives us something to play for in our last game.” “Ideally, we’d like to do it with a win and finish the season on a high.”
“I think for momentum as well it would be nice to extend our unbeaten run to 17 matches and go into next season with that behind us.”
In fact the last time Newcastle were defeated was the 3-0 loss at Derby County on 9th February, and in the 16 league games since then we’ve had 12 wins and 4 draws – too too shabby at all.
40 points from 16 games is an amazing streak for the Newcastle side, and what a great time to do it too.
But there again, the lads have done almost everything right this season – and long may it continue – including Sunday afternoon with a nice win.
