Nolan – New Players Need Togetherness, Grit and Determination

Kevin Nolan is possibly Newcastle’s best player this season in the Championship, and has often captained the side in the absence of both Nicky Butt and Alan Smith.

Kevin Nolan – demonstrates the grit he is talking about

And you have to admit that Kevin Nolan now knows all about the Newcastle club and the passion of its famous supporters.

And Kevin has given an excellent interview to the Newcastle Journal this morning, and says that manager Chris Hughton is extremely  shrewd and usually gets who he wants – as seemed to happen in January.

Kevin said today:

“Whoever we bring in, it cannot just be done on the basis he is a top player, he is a big name, he will do. It cannot be like last time.”

“We are not going to make a big- name signing and then focus everything on that player.”  “We are not going to splash out £20m on this one, £10m on that one and £5m on that one and suddenly say these are the main men.”

“I don’t think this club thinks like that anymore. I don’t think you can do that anymore with the way finances in football have gone.”

“Chris is very shrewd, he knows what he wants and he knows how to get it.”  “He is very good with the business side of things as well as the football side of it. I am sure he will sign the players he wants.”

“I am sure we will see three or four new additions this summer, but they will be great additions.”  “They will be players who fit into the squad and give us something a little bit different.”

“They are going to be people who connect with the place, players who buy into what Newcastle United is all about, which at this moment in time is togetherness, grit and determination.”

“We will play our football when we can, but we want to win, that is the mentality we have as a group.”  “You have to give your heart to this football because there is no point coming here if you are not.”

“The least the fans demand is effort and commitment, and a passion about playing for this club.”  “If you are not up for that it is not worth bothering to come here.”

“That is why some players have found it difficult to come up here in the past, they did not fully understand that or appreciate it.”

Those are good words from Nolan and Newcastle supporters know all about some of the trophy signings the club has made over the years, who have turned out to be hopeless overpaid players.

Not to mention most of them couldn’t be bothered when push came to shove – like it did last season at this time.

Newcastle fans have been delighted with the players this year for showing the pride and passion that is so important at the Tyneside club.

So in short it seems that Kevin wants any new player who comes to Newcastle in the summer, to have that pride and passion for the Newcastle club – otherwise they shouldn’t bother coming.

We second that completely.

Robbie Keaneis a player with the ability to score 15 to 20 goals a season. He’s over the supposed age limit but has all of the attributes Nolan mentioned.

He’s over the supposed age limit, and he is also over the pay cap I think his financial demands will be way too high.

Other than that I like his work ethic
