There is a report in the News Of The World today that Bolton manager Owen Coyle wants Newcastle’s Ryan Taylor.
Ryan Taylor – Bolton interested in Newcastle utility man
The new Bolton manager has reportedly been impressed with the Newcastle utility player, who can play on either wing or in either full-back position.
The report suggests that Bolton would be willing to pay Newcastle £2M to secure the Liverpudlian’s services.
Ryan is a good player and has appeared 35 times this season for Newcastle, with 23 starts and 4 goals, and he is a very useful man to have in the squad.
Before joining Newcastle 15 months ago, he played at Tranmere Rovers from 2002-2005 and then for Wigan Athletic, but we cannot see Chris Hughton wanting to lose such a flexible player, before a critical season for the Newcastle United club.
We believe the Newcastle manager will want to keep his current squad and add four quality players to it – to be able to compete successfully in the Premiership next season.
Nicky Butt and French winger Fabrice Pancrate are the only two senior players we expect to see leaving Newcastle this summer – and we don’t expect top see Ryan Taylor leaving any time soon.

Comment #5I would prefer Ryan Taylor at RB to Simpson. Not perfect RB but still a better defender than Simpson and can put decent crosses and corners in also. Someone needs to teach Simpson how to close people down and defend.

Comment #6Hmmm 2 million? probably not worth selling. He is only a half decent player but is exceptional at set pieces.
He has become redundant at the toon since we discovered guthries right foot, but still useful player to have around.

Comment #7We did this too much last year to Milner, Zog and others. He is not a right back. He is a winger. He will never be a good right back. The same as zogbia was never a left back but was a good left wing but we let him go as he was never that great a left back. I don’t mind keeping him as a winger back up but if we want a back lets get a back.

Comment #13I would sell in an instant. R. Taylor seems like a nice guy and all, but I don’t rate him that much as a footballer. Especially not as a defender. 2M? I would take that and head off looking for a new Bassong/ Williamson etc.

Comment #14The fact that another premiership club is enquiring about him makes me think more than CH and his backroom boys think he has what it takes to live in the top flight.
That being the case I would not be so quick to let him go unless we had someone in the pipeline to cover his leaving.

Comment #15I’d saell for £2m, if we can get a better RB for the same amount (or a little extra). He hardly set the Championship alight so won’t be overly solid at Premier League level (again).
If he stays, fine, he’s a squad player. However if we can sell him and bring in someone that’ll challenge for the first team we’d be mad not to do the deal.

Comment #18if anyone bids anything decent for him, he’ll defintely go… Hughton can’t think much of him since he’s brought in Simpson to play ahead of him and we were sniffing around James Perch in January… not a Premier League player, good dead ball on him though!

Comment #19Im with the majority on this one. Taylor seems like a decent guy, decent free kick taker, but last year in the premier he looked out of his depth. I know most of our boys did, but Taylor was one in particuar whose lack of pace, and clumsy style was found wanting.
I would take 2 mil for him, and certainly look for another full back.
