Tim Krul had a solid game yesterday and kept another clean sheet for Newcastle, and also made some very good saves.
Tim Krul – good game yesterday
And Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has praised the young 22 year-old Dutchman for the patience he has shown this season as understudy to the in-form Steve Harper:
“Tim has taken over from where Harps has been all season. He pulled out some big saves today. We have won this division because we are the all-round best team.”
“Tim is a very confident goalkeeper. We are fortunate that we have two very good young keepers. Tim lacks first team experience, but he showed today that he is a quality player.”
“I expect he’ll be knocking on my door over the summer asking for more first-team games next season. He is an ambitious lad and we rate him highly.”
Newcastle are well off for goalkeepers and that is hardly a position that Chris will worry too much about over the summer.
Tim will push Steve Harper very hard next season for that first team jersey on Tyneside, and we also have 22 year-old Fraser Forster returning in the summer.
Fraser has been in absolutely wonderful form while on loan at Norwich City, and may even spend another season at the East Anglia club, who will of course be playing in the Championship next season.
As we said earlier, goalkeeper is hardly a problem position at Newcastle.
