Newcastle Miss Out On Jeremain Lens – To Sign For PSV?

It is being reported today that Dutch club PSV have agreed a £5M fee with AZ Alkmaar for potential Newcastle target – striker Jeremain Lens.

Jermain Lens – to sign for PSV Eindhoven

The news was that Newcastle had some interest in the striker, as had Wolves, Wigan, Sunderland and Fulham, for the highly-rated 22-year-old, but it would appear he will shortly sign for Dutch club PSV.

The player himself said today:

“Both sides have talked about the transfer fee and the last thing I heard was that they had come to an agreement. “

“Then I have to reach an agreement with PSV. Until Sunday, myself and AZ were focused on competition and now I will deal with the transfer.”

Lens has recently gained a place in Holland’s training squad for South Africa, and has apparently been preferred to Hamburg and former Manchester United striker – 33 year-old Ruud van Nistelrooy – who is now way past his best of course.

This will be one of many players that Newcastle will seem to miss out on during the summer, but of course we have no real idea whose Chris Hughton’s targets actually are, and Chris usually plays his cards very close to his chest, so we may never know, until the signings are made.

But we have a quiet confidence in Chris, because he seems to know a good player when he sees one, and he has already said he will go after quality, rather than quantity this summer, and that is just fine with us.

If Chris really does have this lad as a Newcastle target, and Chris really wants him, we would expect Newcastle to move very quickly in the next few days, as they showed they could do in January.

But not to worry, there are many good young players available, that Newcastle can sign this summer.

Comments welcome.

“I’ve got two more years on my contract and I’m not really fussed about the things which are going on,” said Sigurdsson.

“I’m happy here and playing every week so I think it would be a good idea to stay here for another two seasons. I’ll just turn my phone off and enjoy the summer now.

“If we start next season properly then I think we will have a great chance to get into the Premier League. I think it will be a good season next year.”

So the season finished 3 days ago we finished as champions by 11 points un-beaten at home & with all but 1 of chris’s signings making an impact. But your doubts about Chris are increasing!? Please explain?…….For gods sake give the man a chance, he has certainly earned it.

    Sorry noir9 ,, I’m with Henok.

48 hours is more than enough time to get his squad ready for next season. I mean OK he averted our death roll into footballing meltdown, restored credibility, belief and results to a proud footballing region and yet he missed out on this player – who we don’t even know anything about or if he wanted in the first place. I’m sorry this is the final straw! Hughton OUT!

Seen him play a few times, OK but nothing to suggest the £5M price tag apart from youth on his side. Granted, we are in the market or younger players, however we could buy better players of the same age and the same price……

but ye lens isnt a bad player still young, but admit we can do a lot better, even though players from the holland league tend to do well in the prem.

Finally I found some highlights of the QPR game!
Joey Barton with a wonderful pass thru the defence and a goal came off with it. 🙂

Suarez would be better, from Ajax. Just dont trust Holland league strikers, its suspiciously common to get 30+ in a season

Tbh If hes only scored 8 goals in like 40 games or something , he must be more of a link up striker and we already have that with carrol.

We would never afford him, petey.

Ajax bought him for 7.5 mil euros back in 2007.

Boater @ 7, Whilst I didn’t always agree, I used to agree with most of your opinions once upon a time. CH has finished this season with 3 fantastic achievements, finishing 1st, after a relegation. Finishing with an unbeaten home record, and lastly, and least importantly finishing with a triple figure score. What else does CH have to do to earn your respect? Oh, by the way, can you remember the last time when the toon finished with a manager that managed to keep his dignity intact? I think you will find even SBR found that nearly impossible. Get behind or get out you dimwit!

What is this PS3 thing people keep talking about? Is it like a ZX Spectrum with an expansion port on the back? lol. Seriously though, I would love to give it a go, but my daughter still frightens the tagnuts out of me with her 3 year old Wii (pronounced WheyIye?) console.

Apologies G and others for using sarcasm to make a point about how fickle some supporters have been on here. I thought I’d laid it on pretty thick, and assume you jumped to the last two words without reading properly?
