Joey Barton Wants Flying Start To Premiership Next Season

Joey Barton seemed to be on top of the world in the last few weeks of the season, not unlike many Newcastle fans.

Joey Barton – only 47 appearances in 3 seasons

And when Joey started for the Newcastle side he always seemed to be Newcastle’s best player.

Joey has had big injury problems during his three seasons on Tyneside, and in the Championship season just completed, appeared only 15 times due to the foot injury he sustained in late September.

In Joey’s 3 seasons at the club he has appeared only 47 times, with 34 starts and 3 goals.

That’s not a good return for Joey, and we have to hope his injury problems and his personal problems will be things of the past.

Joey told the Newcastle United TV yesterday:

“Having had injuries and working so hard to get fit you don’t really want to let that go, only to have to do it all again.”

“I’ve already done two pre-seasons this year so I want to keep my fitness levels up over the summer.”   “I know I’ll have to go through it all again in July but I want to hit the ground running.”

“Because of that I’ll probably just chill out, have a few games of golf, spend some time with my family and friends and just look forward to getting a flying start in the Premier League next year.”

“I really enjoyed coming back in towards the end of the season and it was nice to play a part.”

“All the hard work had been done by that stage, but, for me, it did me the world of good both physically and mentally to be part of the group and feel strong within myself.”

What Joey says is probably what a lot of Newcastle are thinking – that they’ll take some time off but then be really looking forward to getting back for the pre-season.

The positive thing for Newcastle is that a lot of our players – like Harper, Simpson, Coloccini, Enrique, Barton, Smith, Gutierrez and others have a lot to prove next season in England’s top league.

That has to auger well for Newcastle having a decent season back in the Premiership.

We do need a couple of nice winnable fixtures to start. I remember when Fat Sam took over we didn’t play anyone inside the top 10 until November. But Sam still managed to mess it up.

CH needs a good start. Confidence breeds success.

And he needs cover for Jonas who will come back knackered from having won the world cup. One week he’s setting up Messi the next Leon Best….

Joey’s had two pre-seasons and very few games as a result of injury and other distractions.

Lets hope he wears boots that give him some protection, keeps out of trouble in the close season (maybe six weeks in a Tibetan buddhist retreat might help?).

Mr Barton’s no doubt a talented player but his career’s very much in his control.

When does his contract expire/ has it been renewed? I really want the bloke to succeed but this has to be his final shot.

Through all the turmoil and controversy i’ve always said he could come through the other side, now it’s time he showed everyone what he’s really got.
